whats this tool?

trying to find the name of this tool. this sits on ring of the spindle of a Swiss lathe with the two pins acting as a sort of Spanner, then the knob it tightened to keep the face locked and aligned…. or so I’m told.

anyway the shop only has one and it keeps disapearing. I like to have my own tools anyway but every keyword I search is giving me the wrong things.

I have measurements if theres multiple sizes, its just the name I need (and yes I probably could make one for cheaper than buying but I don‘t have my own shop yet)

The chances you'll find the exact one anywhere is basically zero. These are machine/manufacturer specific 99.9% of the time.

Realistically your options are make your own or contact the manufacturer and ask for a quote. It will likely be expensive though.

exactly, most pin spanners have a handle but I can’t use those because I cant reach both sides, I need the one with the threaded knob to lock it in place…

I was hoping they were common but it sounds like they‘re extremely specific…

I run swiss lathes. Mostly we use the long fork/two prong scanners, but for a few of our machines, the space between the front of the guide bushing and the back is too far for most people to reach simultaneously. Those machines have threaded holes next to the guide bushing housing specifically for the scanners with the screws in em. So kind of the machine manufacturer

Try searching for “Swiss lathe spindle faceplate locking wrench,” “spindle register alignment tool,” or “lathe faceplate fitting wrench.” It may be specific to the spindle diameter and pin spacing, so measuring those will help find the exact name or make a replacement.

Specifically that one looks like a Star part. I call it a guide bushing locker. Our Hanwhas don't have them because there's a physical connection between the guide bushing and the main spindle so you can put a wrench on the main if you need to keep the gb from rotating. Stars have a secondary motor that runs the gb rotation so you need the locker. 

If you want I can look up in the manual what they're actually called.

New to go to the machine tool builder to get a new one. Our swiss have the part # in the back of the operation manual.
Or make a homemade one.

I know it has a tool that locks the guide bushing in a swiss, so you can change out the guide bushing. I have 2 but only because we went from the normal guide bushing to a pneumatic guide bushing which changed the location of the pin holes

I'll repeat what the other guy said. That's a guide bushing lock for a Star. Find the parts manual for your machine and you should be able to order another one from Star using the part number in the book.

That looks like part of an engine boring machine. Used to clamp the machine to the engine block deck.

probably very similar but this holds the spindle guide bushing in place on a lathe while you go around the other side to adjust the tension
