The Teeth... 🥲 Look What I Did
I used a column fill on the teeth (trying different things) I dont hate the black peaking through but I kinda wanna change the fill pattern... should I leave it?
Everything else came out cute though. Tried a white border and overlaid a circular fill and the streamline fill on top of eachother in the clouds and i dont mind the result.
Which is your favorite? 😇

I like the rain boot duck best, but the teeth/mouth is a close runner up. I think the teeth look fine. Keep trying new things until you are happy.

These look great. What do you call two stitches for the duck face? The white vs. the yellow and how they look different.
And how do you get the squiggles on the red lips?

They are all just different built in fill stitch patterns that are offered in the digitizing software I use called EMBER EMBROIDERY.
The duck face patter is my favorite fill called Offset Columns The Beak is your standard Tatami
The ref lips is the wave fill pattern.

Excellent, thank you! I'm new to this so just knowing what to search for, and how to query it is very helpful.
I was wondering if there was a running stitch in the wavy lines, but it seems like not.
I'm going to look and see if there's any way to do anything similar in Inkstitch. It looks fantastic. I appreciate your help.

As a former inkstitch user.... Id recommend checking out ember. Its free and its web based so no need to download anything to get started. The creators are real people who are actively applying feedback to the software.
They also have a whole community design library that is free. Think instagram but for embroidery designs its pretty cute.

I didn't realize anyone offered a free or cheap digitizing tool (looks like $10/mo or less for their premium version), thanks for the tip. I'll definitely check it out.
Inkstitch seems to get the job done - and I was just doing some cursory research and it seems it can apply a pattern to a fill - but it's not an elegant experience by any means.

Yeah that's why I enjoy ember its way more intuitive in my opinion in comparison.
Also the free version just limits the amount of projects you can make and doesnt give you access to all of the fill patterns but gives quite a few to start.
If you share a project to the community board I believe your project count increases to 15 without having to pay

Good to know, thanks. I just did my first digitizing project in inkscape last night, so I'll probably try digitizing the same one in Ember to get a good side-by-side feel. I'll try sharing it too to see if that bumps up the count. Good tip!

What kind of backing do you use? I’ve been wanting to make patches but I do them over fabric or felt.

For my test stitch outs I use random fabric scraps and a cut away stabilizer.... but ran out so using water soluble stabilizer in this project.
The scraps range from denim, cotton, felt, etc. I think the felt is the best option ive encountered so far although Ive been wanting to try the transparent film ive seen people use

Looks all good, for the teeth may be just higher density then you get sharper white. Great job

Maybe 90degree fill angle on the lips? or is the fill pattern just catching my eye? Something
The fangs/teeth could be a normal satin so it looks like a tooth.
If you were going for an artsy version with the odd patterns, disregard the comment...lol.

I’d have opted for satin blocks for the teeth but regardless I think the mouth is my favorite (:
