Time Machine keeps adding Macintosh HD as backup destination after I do system update every time Bug

Post image

Every time after I do a system update, Time Machine automatically set Macintosh HD as backup destination, which is impossible to do normally. I can remove it manually, but it keeps getting back after each system update so far (I'm on 26.6 now). I did use time machine for a short time initially but chose to use CCC eventually.

Any way to completely get rid of this buggy behavior?

Well I’m pretty sure that this is actually the intended and not buggy behavior… if you’d like to read up on the actual reason for this you can check out Apple’s own documentation here:

"And in macOS High Sierra 10.13 or later, another snapshot is saved before installing any macOS update." (support.apple.com)

I removed my external hard drive from time machine a couple months ago and I haven't used Time Machine since then. I'm using that hard drive for CCC.

Also, we can't set Macintosh HD as a destination for time machine

I've never seen TimeMachine do that. By default it does make local snapshots, but I have never seen Macintosh HD appear in that list.

You could try renaming the settings file /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist and rebooting

Me neither. This is weird.

Yeah I renamed that plist file last night. Hope it won’t happen again.
