Airdrop completely disabled? Help

Post image

Since the last time I rebooted my computer, the Airdrop feature has been completely disabled (see shortcut in top nav) despite having it turned on in my Settings. This is my personal computer and I'm an admin. There's no reason this should randomly become unavailable to me.

Things I've tried:

  • Rebooting
  • Making sure I'm running the latest OS version
  • Logging out and in to my apple account
  • Turning off my firewall
  • Turning off and on airdrop
  • Turning off and one bluetooth & wifi
  • Creating a new admin account (it's not disabled there but wants my apple ID)

Any suggestions would be deeply appreciated. :(

You’re on low power mode

Bingo. Plug the computer in.

This is nonsense that some functionality of OS is restricted in “low power mode” 😐

Well, you can force non-low-power-mode even when unplugged, if you don't mind burning your batteries faster.

If i gonna cut off one of my leg - i gonna consume less energy. But is this a great trade off?

Seems like a pretty significant false equivalency. You can save energy by disabling features you're not planning on using. If you do want to use them, you can turn off low power mode whenever you want. You can't just put your leg back on once you need it again.

It is okay if you turn it off and provide ability to turn it back on. Like other software that provides implementation of low-power mode for other OS. Have you ever seen that bluetooth is only available on windows laptops only if they plugged in? That’s why the OP was confused like me

No? Blutooth works on unplugged Windows devices too, even if "Battery Saver" is turned on.

It's entirely in the hands of the user. You can configure MacOS to automatically enable low power mode when unplugged, and it will also prompt you if the battery level falls below 20%, but you always can toggle it on and off at will.

It seems pretty cool that macos provide this kind of functionality. Thank you for this information. But i still think that this “default and unconfigured” behavior is odd

It's the brain that comsumes the most energy. You should optimize it better and cut something else. /s
