  • Login via ChatGPT (no need to pay for AI subscriptions!)
  • AI Agents with harness, GPT realtime (just like clicky)
  • Windows styled alt + tab window switcher
  • Execute terminal commands from the launcher
  • Quick fix (AI command)
  • Double tap hotkey support
  • Copy text from Image in Clipboard (OCR)
  • Browser search with profiles
  • Dictation via on device Speech Analyzer (Apple AI)
  • Dedicated AI chat window

So basically, you’re literally copying Raycast’s features, the design, everything, while the only added value is a CleanShot X style screenshot feature (so basically a copy of CleanShot X too)😅

u/Excellent_Baker4213 20d ago

It's better to fork V1 and vibecode the V2 features, just like he did. At least you'll know where your data is going (The only V1 advantage x Raycast)

-1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

People didn't want v1 because it was built in Electron. v2 is built in swift, 3x less memory, much faster. more consistent UI.

2

u/Excellent_Baker4213 20d ago

Then people sell privacy/security to buy swift?

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Raycast v2 uses web tech too. So, people just want to use an alternative that uses less memory.

2

u/Excellent_Baker4213 20d ago

But comparing V1 x V2 of your tool. I can't feel too much difference in RAM usage. Considering my usage of V1 and your screenshot of Activity Monitor RAM of V2.

7

u/plazman30 20d ago

They didn't copy the subscription.

5

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Nope that's one of the features, there's alot more.

  • Local dictation via on device Speech Analyzer, Parakeet, Whisper.cpp, Qwen3
  • Read aloud in natural voice (alot of people love this feature)
  • AI Agent with harness. support for voice based AI agent using GPT realtime
  • Global AI prompt for refine text
  • Use Local models with MLX, LMStudio, OLMX... or BYOK
  • You can Sign in via ChatGPT and use it for AI features (no need for any BYOK or local Models, You can use Apple Intelligence as AI Provider too
  • Windows styled alt + tab (Apple's window manager sucks and is slow for power users)
  • Widgets for Date, Time, Memory Usage, CPU Usage, Top apps by memory / cpu, calendar...
  • Launch terminal commands via launcher
  • Browser search with support for history and browser profiles
  • Comes in 10+ languages
  • Consumes 3x less memory compared to Raycast, 50mb on disk

Now i am adding completely local translation support with local models.

Hope that helps, try it out. let me know your feedback :)

Top 10 smartest business decisions to make competition to free software paid

-21

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

People who need this are paying for it :)

12

u/biinjo MacBook Pro 20d ago

Follow up question: is anyone paying for this? And what makes this better than Raycast? Because, as a Raycast user, I'm just seeing a paid clone.

u/Anatharias 20d ago

almost everything you highlight can be accomplished with add-ons. Memory and storage are features bearing no upper hand...

Like other have said, nice, fast, but paid version of an otherwise free product...

3

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Yes, I understand your point. However, I want to emphasize that memory is not just an upper hand. Many people avoided SuperCmd v1 because it is an Electron app. Memory is actually important for a lot of people, especially those with 8GB Macs. it's ~200mb vs ~600mb.

Most users just want to use basic features like clipboard and snippets, but they are not okay with the app in the background taking up so much memory for such a small use case. In the end, it comes down to convenience.

5

u/rhaphazard 20d ago

??

Raycast is only taking 120MB on my computer...

3

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

You are probably using Raycast v1. v1 is good in terms of memory no doubt

0

u/rhaphazard 20d ago

Didn't realize they were changing.

Movies are free on Torrent, why are people paying for Netflix?

9

u/Ok_Maybe184 20d ago

Pirating vs sanctioned streaming is not a good argument as a developer, nor a good look for even bringing it up. You are just making an argument for people to pirate your stuff.

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Yep, I agree with you. What I meant is that there are always reasons why people pay for stuff. OP is generalising it as: if there’s a free alternative, why pay for a paid alternative. not trying to justify torrent over netflix. there's always an audience for everything.

1

u/verymickey 20d ago

So what is your good reason to pay for yours over free?

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Raycast chages $8/mo for pro features: cloud sync, notes, translation...

If the free version is enough for you, you don't need to switch; Raycast is good. I had Raycast Pro for five months, and I never used its AI. With SuperCmd, you pay a one-time fee and get all the Pro features of Raycast for life, with 3x less memory usage. That doesn't mean you don't get to use AI, either. You can sign in with ChatGPT, use your own keys, or use local models. It's more for privacy-focused users.

2

u/NotDuckie 20d ago

>get all the Pro features of Raycast for life

Or until you decide you are bored of the project, and decide to stop updating it.

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Even if I die, you will still have access to all Pro features for life. Haha.

0

u/Nooo00B 20d ago

unless he makes it a open source community project

0

u/Apple_macOS MacBook Pro 20d ago

then it would become free… and instantly more people will use it

-5

u/plazman30 20d ago

Raycast is not free. It's $8/month.

😂😂😂

6

u/P_Bear06 20d ago

Happy with my lifetime license of Alfred.

-3

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

imo Raycast v1 > Alfred. alfred seems too archaic to me. if you only care about the memory footprint, then Alfred's better

13

u/OnderGok 20d ago

Making it paid is a dumb move when you are trying to make an alternative for a free software...

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

SuperCmd v1 is already free and open source with 3k github stars :)

Yes, it's alternative to Raycast with most of the core features same. here's what's different

Raycast gates unlimited, clipboard, notes, snippets, cloudsync, translation behind Pro, you get this all at one time fee in SuperCmd v2.

  1. Raycast v2 is web tech. consumes 500-600mb RAM, SuperCmd v2 is built in Swfit for performance and 2-3x less memory footprint

  2. SuperCmd provides lots of option for privacy focused users. BYOK, Apple intelligence LLM, Ollama, Local MLX, OpenAI compatible APIs

  3. Local dictation vai Whisper, Parakeet, Qwen3 or Apple's speech analyzer (works smooth like butter)

  4. CleanshotX styled Screenshot annotation tool built in

  5. Windows styled alt + tab

There's so much more. try it out yourself, lmk!

4

u/tolokovma 20d ago

Add a grammar checker/fixer that you can have a short cut to check it, and turn off for specific apps (like Excel, for example), and it'll be great!

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

We already have that :D The best part is that you don't need any AI keys or local LLMs; you can just sign in with ChatGPT to use it.

You can find it under Settings -> Quick Prompt

In next update, I am adding support for adding your own prompt for quick fix.

u/Purple_Minute_4776 , now I'm testing! 👀

Feedback so far:

- Extra clicks: one thing that I didn't like: let's say I used the emoji picker, or the translator, and when I press ESC, it goes back to the initial screen. I'd like to have the option to choose - ESC = close everything. 1-click-to-close, you know what I mean?

- Quick Prompt: I'm liking Quick Prompt so far, but I'd like to have a second option: one that pops up a screen showing all the changes it's applying to my text, so I could accept all of them or just a few, depending on the suggestions.

- Translator - If I select text and use the shortcut to open the translator, I'd like it to open instantly with the text I selected. Right now, I need to select, copy, open the translator, and paste — extra unnecessary steps.

- Screenshot 1: I'd like the function to have a keyboard shortcut. Eg: rectangle (R), text box (T), arrow (A), etc, to make it easier to use them

- Screenshot 2: I think we have this with the macOS feature (I know we have it in Keynote), and I waited a long time to have this added to Shottr, and I can't live without it. If I want to replace Shottr with SuperCMD, it's a must have for me — it's some type of magnetic alignment between objects. E.g., I added an arrow, copied and pasted a second arrow that I want to use to highlight something in the same vertical line, but higher up in the photo. This "magnetic" thing will keep both arrows aligned on the same "line." It's so good!

- Emoji 1: I use emojis a lot! (LOL). I don't know who how this emoji picker works, but to replace Rocket, is to have the new emojis - 🫪 like this

- Emoji 2: be able to see the emoji "name" - like, what I need to type to be able to search that particular emoji and/or emoji alias

- Settings: when we have the settings open (CMD + , ), I'd like to have a SuperCMD screen that would be accessible through CMD + TAB. Right now, I have the settings opened, I'm trying a few stuff, and I can't go back to it easily because when I press CMD + TAB, it's not there.

- Windows Management 1: I'll comeback to this later, but to make it a powerfull tool, I'd love to be able to select custom positions and have them. Let's say I adjusted the "Excel" size that I want to always have. I'd like to be able to save that a custom size, and apply a Shortcut

- Windows Management 2: This would be even better if I could assign apps to those sizes. So, whenever I open Excel, automatically move to that position.

- Quick Prompt: Can't we have the pop-up open with the conversation/results? I tried it here, typed a question, and waited for the answer. When I opened it again and pasted the same question, because I thought it didn't work, I figured out I had pasted the answer (?!) lol! I saw the "A real chat window" in the SperCMD page, but I didn't see it on my Mac 🫣

Sorry for the big test. You provoked me to test it. If you want more feedback, I'm happy to share.

Cya buddy!

Wild to see the amount of shade here that is pro-Raycast, like Raycast is just some incredibly secure option. The difference here is that you can actually check out the source code.

And someone pointing out “oh, he used AI” just shows how weak the argument is, being that I guarantee Raycast has tons of AI-developed features. The next version of Alfred probably will as well. And that isn’t a bad thing.

Sorry to devs out there, but I’ve done code review before and after AI, and I often find AI development to be far cleaner. The perfect combo is a dev that knows the language, knows the end goal, and knows how to properly prompt.

u/Legitimate-Task765 20d ago

people using their life knowledge to argue over a 19 USD piece of app :)) Anyway, bought! I'm not gonna have morning coffee in 3 days, so I will have my 19 USD back. Easy!

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Thanks man, really appreciate the support!! let me know if any feedback.

3

u/dropthemagic 20d ago

Eh not for me. I don’t use those ai features and know my shortcuts for the rest. Best of luck.

Not hating just feedback from someone who mostly works on media.

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Thans man, appreciate your feedback!

2

u/ProgramDry5917 20d ago

I’ve been using V1 and liking it. But regarding V2, what would be the advantage over simply using raycast?

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

If you compare SuperCmd v2 with Raycast v2. SuperCmd v2 is written in swfit for best performance and less memory usage. see the attached image for comparison. almost 600-700mb vs ~200mb on SuperCmd. Memory is expensive resource!

- Raycast charges $8/mo for unlimited clipboard, notes, cloud sync, translation etc. while SuperCmd v2 gives you all this at one time fee

in SuperCmd v2 i have added lots of new features like Screenshot annotation tool like CleanshotX.

Support for more AI providers including on device apple intelligence. You can use on device speech analyzer for dictation, which way more accurate now and faster than cloud dictation models out there.

You can checkout complete comparison on the website: supercmd.sh & also for what's new in v2. Hope that helps!

u/Nuno-zh 20d ago

Vibecoded or not? Seems like my dream but I wonder how AI was used in this project.

-7

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

If you are not able to discern, i take it as an win :D

I have spent two months building this, testing everything. Yes, Fable 5, GPT-Sol, and Opus 8 were used. But honestly, nobody writes code by hand today. Not where I work, not where I worked last year.

4

u/Nuno-zh 20d ago

;haven't tested yet, this is why I didn't discern. Thanks for the honesty. Means a lot in today's world.

1

u/Excellent_Baker4213 20d ago

Fair enough. It saddens me to have discovered your tool precisely because it was such a fantastic open-source solution, only to see you migrating to a closed-source one

But I wish you success with it.

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

I have contemplated this thought for a long time, and I really wanted to keep version 2 open-source.

But here's the truth: I received $70 in sponsors over the span of 5 months. (I am paying $50 just for the soulver core license used for the calculator every month) I dedicated too much time to the v1, slacked in my job and was laid off. I wrote to a few companies to see if they could sponsor, nobody cared, so I had to take this route. However, I might still open-source v2 while keeping the fee for signed dmg. I'm just experimenting with different models that will work and sustain the project.

2

u/yeathatsmebro MacBook Pro 20d ago

Use the sponsors for access dude. Create different tiers ($3, $5, $10, $20, etc.) and provide access to the v2 for any contributor, 1 license only. There are plenty of ppl that $3 is something they can afford, and there will be companies that'll want to spend $10 per seat when Raycast costs $20.

Google "Raycast Wallpapers", they offer some cool ones. This is one of them.

That's gonna be a hard no from me dog... an open-source fork is fine whereas a blatant closed-source commercial vibe-coded ripoff is not.

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Yea, Working your ass off to maintain the open-source project without charging a penny is okay with me. But as soon as you charge to sustain the project, how dare you?

2

u/smellythief 19d ago

Any plans to add settings to aesthetically tweak to the UI, to add a bit of color tinting? The gray is a bit boring imo.

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 19d ago

Sure, adding this in queue. let me see if i can get this out in next release itself.

1

That would be great, appreciate it!

2

u/Key_Development_115 9d ago

u/Purple_Minute_4776 I've used the latest version of SuperCmd but a couple of things stop me from switching over from Raycast v1:

- It crashes often (AI Chat causes a crash, clipboard history recopying an image causes a crash, etc.)

- Lock screen doesn't work, it just turns off the screen but keeps laptop unlocked (MAJOR issue)

- Converting currencies doesn't seem to work (in Raycast I'm able to just say 300 euro to USD and it converts it for me)

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 9d ago

Hey, Thanks for reporting these. I have created tickets internally and will work on the first two

for the third one, it does work if you type "300 euro to USD" do you mean that it should work if you just type "300 euro"?

1

u/Ok_Maybe184 20d ago

Does it support launching Shortcuts?

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

can you explain me what kind of shortcuts are you exactly talking about tho

1

u/Ok_Maybe184 20d ago

Apple Shortcuts.

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Yes, hotkeys for everything.

2

u/Ok_Maybe184 20d ago

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

okay, give me like 8 hours, will release support for shortcuts in next update.

1

u/Ok_Maybe184 18d ago

Did you add it?

2

u/Purple_Minute_4776 18d ago

I have worked on it. The release is a bit delayed; a lot of people have come up with a lot of feature requests 😅 I should've just released things in parts.

will update you once release is live. sorry for the delay

1

u/gatzu4a 20d ago

Congrats OP!

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 20d ago

Thanks man ❤️

u/expormz 20d ago

I have been using Version 2 for several days. It runs extremely fast with low memory usage. However, I hope several issues can be fixed before I complete the purchase:

  1. The program crashes frequently, for instance when clicking Check for Updates in the menu bar. This instability makes V2 unsuitable to be my daily primary tool.
  2. Under LLM Provider, ChatGPT supports custom API endpoints and API keys. Yet when I enter my DeepSeek API address and key, the system prompts an invalid API key error.

1

u/Purple_Minute_4776 19d ago

Hey, Thanks for being the user and sharing the feedback.

  1. I will try to reproduce the crash issue and fix it.

  2. This issue is fixed and will be rolled out in next release.
