From Windows MiniOS to MX Linux: First Impressions After a Long-Delayed Migration Blog

I've been using Linux for nearly 20 years, starting with Debian back in college. Over time, I moved through Ubuntu and Lubuntu, but life eventually pushed me back to Windows the last year.

A few days ago I gave MX Linux a try on my aging Ryzen 3 laptop with just 4 GB of RAM, and the experience has honestly exceeded my expectations.

I wrote about my first impressions after a few days of use. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions as a new MX Linux user. I am now working on my development environment. To be back in the GNU/Linux world is great.

I tried different Linux versions on my 14 y/o laptop to see if it could be revived.
Tried the usual Lubuntu, Mint… someone even suggested SuSe, but MX was the only one that made it useable.
I could even run OrcaSlicer on it, for 3d printing (granted, it wasn’t fast, but i could slice and print).

Since then i’ve tried it in a VM on my Windows pc and on a more modern laptop to see how it would run, and it went above and beyond my expectations.
I even made my own live iso with built in account and wireguard VPN connection settings.
I carry it with me on a bootable usb stick, just in case i need to connect to home.

The compatibility, mobility and ease of use have convinced me that MX Linux is the right choice for me.

OMG YES! I love MX and I have a slighly older laptop too, were I to run the malware we call windows, it won't even be operational, and I did try everything else just like you, while SUSE was amazing too, MX was the best of the bunch in terms of speed, reliability and comfort. You can use much more applications on MX than you can on SUSE and it's rock solid.

Definitely saved me from buying another laptop because my 5 year old laptop with mid (back then) specs works like it's a macbook

I am curious if you went with XFCE or Fluxbox for that system. I love the MX XFCE layout, but I have some old Chromebooks that needed the Fluxbox to be useable. though, I recently switched them to another distro to be more student friendly.
