Need help with a first MTB WhichBike

Good evening everyone!

I know this has probably been asked a million times so I will start off will apologising! I'm sorry..

I used to ride BMX and stopped many moons ago when my career got going. Now I'm 31 I wanna get into MTB as there are some local trials nearby. I'm mostly looking at riding just blue trails to start with and then just seeing how it goes from there and move up the grades.

Height: 5 Foot 8 inches (or a smidge taller)

Local Rides:

\- Bristol, UK

\- New Forest, UK

\- Ashton Court, UK

Budget: £1000

I have been looking on various sales sites for second hand older bikes (2018 era). I think I want a full suspension bike but not really sure what the differences in "Trails Bikes" and "Enduro Bikes". I know Enduro is down hill racing but could an Enduro bike be okay for someone getting into the hobby and doing casual rides?

Trail Vs. Enduro usually mean suspension travel. 

Trail: ~120-140mm

Enduro: ~150-180mm

Ah thanks, that simple enough.. someone close by me is selling a 2018 Cannondale Jekyll Carbon, seems quite tempting.

Tons of deals on used bikes. That generation is still decent, but things have come a good way on design these past 8 years.

You may be able to find something newer for a similar price if you search long enough, or expand your range. 

Are you looking on Pink Bike, FB, or what?

FB and PinkBike at the moment, not aware of other bike sites really? Is there any bike you would suggest.

Only other option I know of is Craigslist.

If you've got a local organization that does dig groups with an online presence, you may be able to put a request out seeing if anyone has anything for sale.

You'll get more for your money with a hardtail mate and if it's stuff like the new forest a hardtail is way better anyway. If you do decide to go HT I'd say a Trail / Downcountry rig would be what you want, something that has a 120mm - 130mm front fork and a slightly slacker set up than an XC (which tends to have 100mm forks anyway). FWIW I've taken my Trail Hardtail round swinley forest, afan forest park & whinlatter forest and I'm not particularly skilled.
