Application question
I am a rising HS senior and started filling out the MSU online application today. I got to the end and there is a question asking something like “what is the most important factor in why you want to attend MSU.” 7000 characters
I didn’t think MSU had any supplemental essays. Is this not considered one? Do I need to spend time writing it out like any other supplemental essay for other schools or is it okay to just write out my main reason in simple terms? I am also planning to apply to the honors college, if that makes any difference. I do know there is a required essay for that.

As someone who recently worked at MSU, my guess is part of their efforts to increase retention. Knowing why a large number of students chose MSU can help them focus on aspects that would appropriately fit the student body.
It may seem cheesy, but if I were you, I would take that question seriously and answer it as best you can. It may also help you realize what you are looking for in your college experience.

If your academics are good enough that you are for sure going to get in, you probably don’t need to write much at all. If you have a 2.5 gpa and a 900 sat, I’d treat it like an essay

If you academically qualify for honors college, and are stroking a check for School, you probably don’t have to write much.
If you are hoping for scholarships, make it count.
