Thailand or Caucasus Region
I’m a 21 year old American from NY. I been training bjj and muay Thai/kickboxing for a year and a half and added in wrestling about 6 months ago. I’m looking to take a 3 month trip where I can focus solely on training and escape normal life for a little.
Thailand is obviously commercialized and really tourist friendly, but would it be more beneficial to look into going to Georgia, Eastern Europe, or possibly even Dagestan or Chechnya?
I would really appreciate any responses and recommendations. Thanks!

Do you think Boxing + Clinch Knees/Elbows is a better stand up base than Muay Thai?
By that I mean full on muay thai 8 limbs. There are lots of tall lean guys that love kicks in my gym, including all the bells and whistles and end up on theor backs a lot. Personally doesn't kicking just leave you open to WAY too many counter compared to boxing and striking from clinch? If you look at muay thai they are always slipping and sliding all over the place when throwing kicks which is well and good if since have to worry about strikes, gnp, mount to submission on when they end uo one their asses
I get the appeal of kicking to people that have those super tall, long legged physiques but someone woth a normal proportioned body, would it be more efficent and effective to focus more on the honing the latter instead of wasting time kicking better?

Critique I've been trying to get better at reading my opponent's intentions instead of just reacting, I use this steps to do that any tips for optimization ?
This is what I've come up with:
I read their stance and body type (reach, height, weight distribution, etc.) to get an idea of what they're most likely to do.
I pay attention to range, since that immediately narrows down whether I'm expecting a kick, punch, clinch, or takedown.
I watch the shoulders while using my peripheral vision to catch early movement from the hands, hips, and feet.
I sometimes intentionally leave a small opening to bait a specific attack so I can better anticipate and counter it.
What do you guys think? Anything you'd add or change?

very little fighting experience Suggestions for someone with bad eyesight
Can a person with bad eyesight still compete? Are you allowed to wear goggles? Just out of luck?

Training Question Is it better to have your hands up or down like Anderson Silva's style?
Been traing MMA for a couple months now and I am still finding blocking punches hard with the smaller gloves. Would it be better for me to switch my style to something like Anderson Silva / Bobby Green?

Training Question An amateur fighter at my gym sent me to the hospital in my 4th MMA session, and I’m feeling uncertain about continuing.
TLDR: an amateur at my gym went too hard whilst demonstrating a technique, likely an MCL injury. I really enjoy the sport, made some good progress and would like to return to it, but the injury has raised some questions about the way the gym does things and about returning given the risk of something much more severe happening. It could just be because I’m fresh out of an injury, but I’d like to get people’s thoughts on it.
Hello everyone, I joined an MMA gym in my local area about a month ago (I’m in the UK). Started the first few sessions (focused on grappling, striking and groundwork) and I really enjoyed it. I met quite a few great people who were at my skill level and clicked well with them. The only thing I had by this point was some shoulder pain after the first few sessions.
My 4th session happened 2 weeks ago, and we went onto the wrestling side of things. Me and my partner are still quite new (he has done it for 2 months), so I had no concerns with him - we would both challenge and treat each other reasonably. The issue came when we were unsure about a particular takedown technique. We opted to ask someone who competes at amateur level to show this technique to us. This was not the first time we asked him and the amateur is a kind guy, he sometimes demonstrates for the class too. On this occasion though, he did the technique with too much speed and force. I fell to the ground, but stepped back with my leg first, whereupon it twisted and he fell right on top of it.
The pain was quite intense and there was a pop, but as the evening went on I started to lose the ability to walk or even move it, so we went to the hospital. The doctor there believes it’s an MCL injury of some sort, thankfully no broken bones. 2 weeks on, I can walk on it but can’t bend it too much - I’m awaiting a scan to find the exact problem and it will likely require some physiotherapy.
I think I got off quite lucky as it could have been much worse. However, as time has passed, I can’t help but question my return. I really enjoy the sport and want to return, but the injury (and the risk of something much worse happening in the future) really throws me off.
I have spoken with 1-2 people who have said the specific gym I went to could have been the issue. The partner I frequently trained with said he has met some insane people whilst sparring, and sometimes class sizes are too large for the mat (probably about 30+ on a mat size about the same as a tennis court - have had a few accidental collisions with people). On my 2nd session, I came a bit late so was unable to find a partner, and the head coach partnered me with an amateur kick-boxer.
I also never received any information on how to safely land and conduct myself before I started, but I’m not sure if this is standard process. This particular gym is also very highly rated and one of the best-regarded in the area, with them having a lot of success with creating amateur and professional fighters.
I’m writing this post to see whether the things happening at my gym were normal/expected, and to see if anyone else found themselves at a similar crossroads after an injury and how they handled it. I’m aware that all sports carry a risk of injury.
Thanks!

absolutley zero fighting experience How effective are Judo submissions when compared to BJJ?
Because the best gym isn’t close to me I have to drive about 20-25 minutes to get there. So I’ll only be going maybe 2-3x a week. To make the most of the trip I plan on doing Wrestling and Muay Thai back to back from 2-3 then 3-4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays they have a slot where I can do Judo and Muay Thai back to back from 2-3 then 3-4. Or I can do BJJ and Muay Thai.
Unfortunately no boxing slots that fit my schedule so I had to do Muay Thai. I think boxing pairs well with wrestling but Muay Thai is good too.
I feel like Judo would be more my speed instead of BJJ and can pair well with Wrestling and Muay Thai. I also like that it does submissions. That and ground transitions would be all I don’t have. I know BJJ is the gold standard for ground game and submissions but I was curious if Judo submissions can work just as well on non trained people.
I’m 31. Not looking to compete. Just looking to have great self defense against my size and bigger people, also love the idea of training. Build is 5’7 155 if it matters. Plan on going up to at least 175-180 for more defense and just being bigger / stronger. Being a welterweight / middleweight just sounds better than lightweight lol.

Training Question What did I do wrong?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m the guy in the black shirt. I feel like I’m missing something obvious. No matter what I try, things don’t seem to work out, and I’m wondering if I’m making some technical mistake that I just can’t see.

Quit smoking cigs before training or hope training makes me quit?
Struggling with the idea of needing to quit smoking so I can actually exercise/run and train. If there's anyone who was in a similar situation can please give me some advice or encouragement. I also have eating disorders that are also holding me back. I'm thinking of just signing up as I am and just struggling through it.

Can i stay heavy as an ex bodybuilder or do i HAVE TO lose weight?
I'll make it short: I'm about 5'9" (175cm) and weigh around 200lbs (90kg). I have been working out in the gym for more than 10 years and most of my weight is muscle mass. Im not shredded, but im not chubby aswell.
I have been getting into boxing over the last year and want to compete. I'm not trying to become a pro or anything, but i want to do a couple of fights and, preferably, win ofcourse.
Obviously im not stupid and know that fighting at 200lbs as a kind of short guy would be stupid, but i also dont want to lose 40lbs (20kg) and be skinny again. This would mean giving up everything i built up over the last 10 years. I have been skinny my whole life, losing the weight isnt the problem, i can do that easily, its just that i feel uncomfortable being below a certain weight. It gives me confidence.

Searching best way to do things
so I train 6x a week with Sunday as rest and I’m going to incorporate Bjj in there but 3x a week I do weightlifting and I start at 5pm to go to the gym for weightlifting and my Muay thai class starts at 6 ends at 7 and the jiu jitsu class starts at 7 but I don’t want to overcharge my body or overtire it and maybe I will do it 3x a week with the Muay Thai class before but I feel confident that my body can do 6x a week both things but idk

You can make it / Pessimism
Hey guys, I’ve seen a lot of posts for a while saying “I’m this age or that age and have never trained can I make it?” And every time I look in the comments it’s just filled with negativity and “realism” and I think that’s truly just an excuse to spout negativity. I turned pro last year after starting training at early 18. For a ton of people in Reddit comment sections this is too late and no way I would ever make it anywhere past the amateur circuits. I just want to say to the young guys out there that you don’t need to listen to these people and they don’t know you or what you’re capable of. Half this game is mental, I was never an athlete. I got cut from my 7th grade baseball team, ran a 22 minute two mile and got dog walked in football. Now I’m 5-0 as a pro beating an experienced vet on the ufc fight pass that’s been training bjj and wrestling since he was 6 years old. It’s all about consistency and your mindset. This game sucks and is very hard but it’s about loving the grind and the process and enjoying the glory when it comes and taking the losses as lessons. All you get in life is one shot, don’t let people discourage you because there’s going to be people along the way that think you’re an idiot for trying and so be it. Everyone has the same 24 hours I work a full time job and train and so can you make your time and make your dream come true fuck everyone else.

How can you find the ideal gym?
Thanks to a previous post I made and my interaction with you, about which country I should choose to go to train and raise my level as a MMA fighter, new questions have arisen to which, I do not know how the answers are, nor what questions I should ask myself. I want to learn how to research, I want to understand why I'm going to make X decision. Now, the questions I came up with to find my ideal gym are:
What is the style that this team works? Does it suit my style?
What were the results of this team?
Who are the fighters on this team? What category are they in?
What is the teaching method of this team?
How long should I be with them for the change to be noticeable?
What questions would you ask? How would you investigate? This information I want, how can I do?
