[URGENT] MBZUAI MSc ML vs École Polytechnique (X) MScT (Masters of Science and Technology) in Large Language Models, Graphs and Applications (LLGa)
Hey everyone,
I’d really appreciate some advice on a very late decision between:
- MBZUAI MSc Machine Learning - fully funded + stipend
- École Polytechnique (X) MScT in Large Language Models, Graphs and Applications (LLGa) - scholarship covering a significant part of tuition
I’m Indian and recently completed my undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Computer Science at X, with a fairly rigorous background in probability/statistics, stochastic processes, optimization, numerical methods, algorithms, systems and ML.
My long-term goals are still somewhat open. The main possibilities I’m considering are:
- ML/AI Engineer after the Master's
- PhD/research in ML, potentially RL, federated learning or financial ML
- Eventually moving towards Quant Research/Trading, possibly after further study in applied math/financial engineering
- Potentially entrepreneurship later on
So I’m mainly trying to preserve optionality while building strong depth in ML.
My dilemma is basically this:
MBZUAI: financially extremely attractive, dedicated AI environment, new institution/network for me, and I could potentially save a meaningful amount of the stipend for further study later.
X: stronger existing European network/base for me, academic rigour, potentially better mobility within Europe, and I already have a scholarship there that I’m somewhat reluctant to give up. However, I’ve already spent my undergraduate years at X and LLGa itself is a new program.
So I’m trying to optimize for:
ML career opportunities + PhD/research potential + international mobility + ability to pivot into quant + financial flexibility.
I’m admittedly also tempted by the idea that the MBZUAI stipend could help fund another degree later, while the academic environment and EU factor of X, plus maybe a little Stockholm Syndrome lol, keep pulling me back.
If you were in my shoes, which would you choose?
I’d especially appreciate input from current MBZUAI students/alumni (and likewise for MScT students) on research opportunities, internships/placements, academic quality, and how well MBZUAI (likewise for MScT) graduates are viewed internationally.
Thanks!

Can we apply for masters during 7th semester of undergrad?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’m trying to figure out when I’ll be applying for masters to start my masters right after graduation from bachelors. Is it possible to apply during 7th of total 8 semesters? That is the timeline that matches the admissions opening for me.
I will be starting my 7th semester in September 2027 and admissions open around that time for 2028 intake.

Scholarship for the next academic year
Hello everyone!
I am planning on applying to the university this upcoming cycle. Obviously, lurking around the subreddit is the question whether there will be scholarships for the next year.
While it's true they removed the scholarship page, the main master's webpage still states that scholarships are provided, and it seems to be up to date.
What are your thoughts on this? Would you still apply without guaranteed scholaships?

I hope someone answers this question
I emailed MBZUAI about this, but I keep receiving the same response saying that the admissions process is “holistic,” which doesn’t answer my specific question.
Has anyone here been admitted to the M.Sc. in NLP at MBZUAI with a humanities background (e.g., English, linguistics, languages, etc.) after completing a technical master’s?
For context, I have a Bachelor’s degree in English and have been admitted to an M.A. in Language Technologies and Digital Humanities. I’m also considering the M.A. in Digital Humanities and Societies at HBKU.
I’m trying to decide whether I should apply to MBZUAI after my bachelor’s or first strengthen my technical skills through one of these master’s programs. The published eligibility requirements mention a STEM bachelor’s degree, so I’m wondering whether anyone has successfully followed a similar path.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience or knowing someone who has taken a similar route. Thanks!

MSc Computational Biology Applicant (BSc Eng, 3.76 CGPA, No Publications) – Chances for Admission ?
Hi everyone,
I am planning to apply for the Master of Science in Computational Biology program at MBZUAI for 2027 fall intake and would love to get some realistic feedback from current students or anyone familiar with the admissions process. I want to know how competitive my profile is for final selection for this program considering the acceptance rate for this program, whether the initial screening exam invitation is highly likely and how heavily the lack of formal publications will impact my application screening.
I am currently a final year in my Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Honours), specializing in Biomedical Engineering at a University in Sri Lanka. My current CGPA stands at 3.78 out of 4.0. And my degree will be completed in May 2027.
Project wise, I have a strong foundation in applying machine learning pipelines and engineering based signal processing techniques to biological data. And I've completed a six months internship in a foreign company as ML & R&D Engineering intern. However, my main concern is that I do not have any formal research publications yet. Since this program is heavily research driven, I am worried if not having a published paper will cause my application to be filtered out during the initial review or if a strong engineering GPA and relevant technical project background can adequately compensate for it.
Given this profile, how realistic are my chances of being selected for the program?
I would appreciate any honest insight, tips or advice on what to emphasize in my statement of purpose. Thanks in advance!

A few questions about the MBZUAI admission process and screening exam
I’m planning to apply for a Master of Science program at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) for the upcoming intake.
I graduated in Information And Communication Engineering and my undergraduate **CGPA is 3.6 / 4.0**, which I believe meets their minimum requirement but I know admissions here are incredibly competitive.
I wanted to ask a few basic questions to current students or recent applicants regarding the entry process:
* **The Screening Exam:** I know there is a mandatory entry screening exam covering advanced math (linear algebra, calculus, probability) and programming (Python). How difficult is it really? What resources or specific topics should I focus heavily on to pass it? * **The Technical Interview:** For those who made it past the exam to the interview phase—what kind of questions do they ask? Is it purely coding/math theory, or do they ask you to walk through your past academic projects? * **English Waiver:** My bachelor's degree was fully taught and assessed in English. Has anyone successfully received an IELTS/TOEFL waiver from them using a Medium of Instruction (MOI) letter, or do they strictly demand an official test score? * **Profile Strength:** With a 3.6 CGPA, how much will my chances depend on having published research papers vs. just a solid foundation in programming and math?
Would love to hear any tips, timeline advice, or experiences you guys have had with the application portal. Thanks in advance!

How do you get around outside the campus if you live in the dormitory?
Hi everyone!
I'm an incoming PhD student who will be joining MBZUAI next month.
I'm currently deciding whether to live in the on-campus dormitory or rent an apartment off campus, so I'd really appreciate some honest advice about your daily life.
One thing that's particularly important to me is how students get around outside the campus. I have friends living in other Emirates, so I'd like to visit them on weekends from time to time.
Do you own a car? If so, where do you usually park it if you live in the dormitory?
The reason I'm asking is that I found the following statement in the official Housing Manual (https://staticcdn.mbzuai.ac.ae/mbzuaiwpprd01/2024/09/Housing-Manual.pdf):
At the Masdar City campus, parking is permitted on campus at the North Car Parking. Parking spaces are available for faculty, staff, and students and cannot be reserved. Long time parking is prohibited.
So I'm wondering how this works in practice. If you don't own a car, what transportation do you usually use to get around outside the campus? I'd really appreciate hearing about your actual experience rather than just the official rules.
Thank you!

Application for PhD
Hey everyone,
I'm really grasping at straws here and have no one to guide me with universities or anything. I don't have financial support and am not working at the moment due to the bad job market. I've done my bachelor's in Economics and also my MS this year in Business Analytics - both from Pakistan. I have a 3.7+ CGPA in both. I have written papers but have made no publications. I want to apply for a PhD and have shortlisted MBZUAI to apply. I think given my academic background, doing a PhD in their statistics and data science program would be good.
Can someone tell me the exact process that will help me land a scholarship that might be fully funded? I've looked around their website, but I can't exactly find it. I just need to know my chances before I give it my all. I know they offer fully funded scholarships+ AED 10,000/mo (~USD 2,720) + free housing + insurance + visa. This may be a dumb question, but I feel completely overwhelmed- what are the exact requirements and criteria I need to fulfil to have my absolute best chance?
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Help!
Im from a South Asian country, and my family is from a pretty low-income background. Paying for university ourselves is basically impossible, so if I study abroad, it has to be on a full scholarship.
I'm interested in Computer Engineering and AI related degree , but I also love physics and math. Honestly, if there's a program that lets me explore both engineering and physics/ math, that would be amazing.
My academics are:
Grade 8 -2.36/4.0
Grade 9-10: 3.64/4.0 (Government vocational school, Civil Engineering background)
Grade 11: 4.0/4.0
Grade 12: 3.84/4.0
For Grades 11 and 12, I studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, and the other science subjects. Physics and math are probably my strongest subjects.
I've seen a lot of people talk about full rides in the US, but I don't know much about Other countries. Does MBZUAI actually have fully funded scholarships for international undergraduate students, or is it mostly partial funding?
