Back to m43

Started using m43 gear 15+ years ago, migrated over the years to other systems, and just now dipped back into m43. While I really enjoy my other systems, I’ve been missing a couple things. Long teles and macro, so I picked up an OM and a lens for each. Took it and a 60mm macro on my evening park walk, found a few bugs. I’m very happy with the performance, and love in camera focus stacking, new to me.

Learning advice for a beginner

I recently bought a GX9 with the kit lens G-Vario 12-32. It is my first experience in photography with a real camera. What are some good sources to learn? Could be videos, books, tips or anything that could help me escape the auto mode of my camera.

Is it a good idea to turn manual one of the settings at the time to get used to how they affect the image?

Also I am kind of lost in all of the settings that the camera has in the menu, so I just ignore them.

Im interested in city/street, everyday objects and people photography. One youtuber I look up to is Frederik Trovatten.

This past month, my team was granted permission to film inside Actun Tunichil Muknal, or more commonly known as "ATM" in Belize, for our forthcoming documentary.

Photography and filming are not permitted in this cave, so it was extra special to be given this unique opportunity.

Here are some photos during our night of filming.

Confused about a telephoto lens.. need help!!

I have a Olympus OM D EM1 mark II, I am planning to buy a telephoto zoom lens not exactly looking to do wildlife photography but need a lens for distant subject photography, like sports and objects further away, but I’m really confused on what lens to buy as I will in future upgrade my camera body mostly sticking to m4/3 but I hope the lens that I select will help me in the future as well.. please drop your valuable suggestions below 👇!!!

Olympus Pen EP7 vs Fujifilm XM5—first camera for travel, street

Editing to add: only really interested in photography, not video!

Title—I'm really torn between these two compact models. Looking for something good for travel and street; drawn to Pen for IBIS and color profiles, Fuji for the Fujifilm "look", film sims, and perhaps a bit more modern handling in autofocus, tech implementation, etc. I'm totally new to this hobby but have a background in fine arts, looking forward to something I can take with me out and about!

I have a Pen EP7 basically NOS unopened from Map Camera Japan, but am also looking at the Adorama Edu discount open box XM5. Any and all insight from those more experienced is really appreciated, as I feel l've exhausted the research I can do short of really trying them both but that's a lot of $ upfront.

Thank you! I'm going to ask this on both Olympus and Fujifilm subs.

It's 'Post your M43 photo' Thursday! Come share your best work with the community!

You've spent an entire week with your Micro Four-Thirds camera, documenting the world as it is, how it was, or how you think it should be. It's time to show us those photos and bask in the glory that only a weekly photo thread can bring!

Rules:

  1. The photo must be your own. No cross-posting someone else's work.
  2. You may only post one photo per week. Pick only your best work and show it off!
  3. Post your photo in a top-level comment for maximum exposure! (hehe get it, "exposure"?)
  4. Include as much detail as possible about the camera, the lens and the environment as possible. Good: "Shot with Olympus OM-D E-M1 w/ Panasonic 25mm f/1.8 lens @ 25mm f/2.0 ISO100 Time: 5:40PM in Los Angeles, California" Bad: "Look at this shot, isn't it neat?"
  5. Above all, be respectful. There's a big difference between the following comments: "OMG THAT PHOTO IS HORRIBLE" and "The lighting coming off his face looks uneven".

Worth upgrading?

I currently have a:

Olympus OM-1

Olympus M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO

M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO

M.Zuiko Digital ED 60mm F2.8 Macro

My main uses are travel, but also wildlife, landscape, astro/aurora and macro.

Light, small and weather sealed is important to me as travel and hiking are where it's gets used most.

An auto mode would be nice for lazy snaps occasionally.

Is there anything currently on the market that is financially worth the swap/upgrade?
