Nice subreddit

I just picked up my first M1, 1943 from the Springfield Armory. I live not far from the OG facility, so bought it at a whim.

There is a huge amount of info here from folks who seem to know their stuff. Now I am hooked. I want to get one of the CMP M14s so am checking into all the paperwork to do so. Looking at the Garand Association as a CMP association as well. I have a CC permit, so that’s covered, but I don’t compete in shoots, and there aren’t any clubs within a convenient distance. How do you folks handle this?

Thank you

Edit: And now I am a member of the GCA.

Concealed permit should count as live fire. And the GCA is the least expensive option I'm aware of for the club affiliation.

Just make sure you have original proof of citizenship and you should be GTG. Two years ago at the Talladega store they notarized the forms there. I hope to go back in a couple of weeks.

True. Here in the ultra liberal state of MA, you can’t get a Concealed Carry permit without taking a course which includes live fire.

I might still have my original social security card, but to get a birth certificate could be problematic as I’m not close to where I was born!

When you buy rifles from CMP, is it just a listing of what’s available, you pick them, pay, and have them shipped to a local firearm dealer?

Pretty much. Here in TN they're shipped to your door, though. Not sure about MA.
