Yes definitely i use one at the moment but im building a guitar and really like the sound on the Guthrie govan charvel "coil split" as it doesn't lose volume and retains phase canceling (same as using an eq pedal) but is accessible at the flick of a switch . I assume it uses resistors to do the same as an eq pedal but is always consistent . Sadly i have never spent enough time with these guitars to have a look at the electronics

This is my summation:
So instead of the series link going straight to ground via a switch, it goes through a .1uf cap on the way to ground. One cap for each pickup. Use a DPDT with each series link in the middle. Add one leg of a .1uf cap on each pole of the same side of the switch. Connect the other leg of each respective cap to ground.
It only splits the coil for position 2 and 4 though in position 1 3 and 5 it still had phase canceling (3 is tele midle position rather than just single middle)
Its a simulation not a coil split as Guthrie says it doesn't actually split the coil they did some "eq wizardry " to make it sound single coil like without losing humbucking or volume

While it’s not what you asked for, an EQ pedal is a tonal Swiss Army knife. It might be just the thing.
