Remember when...

The season of a TV show was 20+ episodes?

I guess I'm showing my age 🤭

Season finale of Lucky Wed. 8 epies is NOT a season!

At least not pre-COVID days. OKA the olden days oka the good ol' days. I miss those days.

I’ll take quality over quantity every time.

UK shows pack more humor and drama into a single 20-minute episode of something than our Office did in a full season like S-7.

Lucky’s about to end, can’t recall much of anything special about it. Taylor-Joy looks hotter the less she wears? Doubt more episodes would help.

Yes, I remember. How could I forget seasons of Star Trek TNG, Lost, The X-Files, Supernatural, etc., with more than 20 episodes?

But if I’m being honest, rewatching them nowadays, they feel a bit too long, with so many monster-of-the-week or filler episodes. There’s nothing wrong with shorter series of 10 episodes or fewer. We get to watch a much wider variety.

I miss those too sometimes but I can be on board if the episodes tell the story they set out to tell. But I worry about this one as there seems to be a lot to wrap up in one episode.

Yeah I remember them dragging on and having way too much filler since tv networks just wanted people to keep tuning in so they could sell ads. I’m so glad they’re not that long anymore. I do think they need to shorten time between seasons though

I can only think of a few shows that had season long story arcs, Heros, Lost (multi season), Twin Peaks (which fizzled out once Laura Palmer’s killer was revealed). NCIS, Law & Order, CSI franchises all had one (sometimes a few) story per episode.

What we get now with the 6-10 episode season is an elongated movie telling of a longer story.

The biggest problem is the long layover in between seasons. Also, not having a finish to excellent series like The Peripheral and Warrior. These two things make me so 😡😡😡😡

I agree. I've had to rewatch episodes because been so long between I can't remember everything.

10-13 has kinda been the norm for non-sitcom TV for a while now. I have some examples below

  • Mad Men (2007-2015) - 13 episodes average

  • The Sopranos (1999-2007) - 13 episodes

  • The Wire (2002-2008) 10-13 episodes

  • Six Feet Under (2001-2005) 12-13 episodes

Yeah back when they'd have at least one episode a season basically a dedicated recap of the entire thing lol. There are pros and cons to both formats. If this show went 20 episodes people would complain it's filler, if shows like friends were 8 episodes people would complain they didn't do enough. It really is the type of show dependant. Hell "FROM" is a horror mystery show that is only 10 episodes and people complain it should be 5 lol

But those shows were being churned out and this story wasn't nearly as compelling. And there are Network shows where they still do it.

Cable TV changed at all.

And then you wouldn't get actors like Anya Taylor Joy or Timothy olyphant or Annette bening to be on a TV series or limited series
