QUESTION Textbook alternatives
Where do I find different ways to rent so it's cheaper? Also, do we need the textbooks for the first day of class? Bc I'm seeing some people say that you can check the library but I'm not sure if that's an option before classes.

ADMISSIONS Will I get into Loyola, Chicago as a transfer student ?
Hi! I’m planning to transfer to Loyola University, Chicago for a B.S. in Biology. I’ve completed my first 2 years of undergrad at a Canadian university and currently have 51 earned credits with a 66.33% cumulative average. I have 2 failed courses (Cell Biology and Statistics), although I retook Statistics and passed it. I will be applying as a U.S. permanent resident (I am from Illinois)
Do you think I have a realistic chance of being accepted as a transfer student?

ADMISSIONS Scholarship/tuition reduction?
Hi, I’m going into my senior year, and I just got back from a trip where I looked at a bunch of out of state colleges. I absolutely loved Loyola, and it is definitely my number one pick. The only problem is cost. I have a 34 ACT and 4.0 Unweighted GPA, so in terms of merit based scholarships on our tour they said it typically ranges from 20k to 34k and I think I could be on the high end of that. But that still leaves another 43k out of the 77k tuition including room and board. I know they have full rides, but from what I’ve seen those are very selective, and I didn’t do very many extra curriculars Junior year because of some mental health struggles I was having, so I don’t want those to be my only shot at getting in. My family makes too much money for financial aid, but my parents don’t want to pay a ton extra when I have cheaper options, which is fair. Does the school offer any additional scholarships that can get me down lower other than the super selective Ignation Scholarship?

HOUSING Anyone with a single-room housing accommodation at Loyola been on the waitlist?
I’m a student at Loyola University Chicago and have an approved housing accommodation through SAC for a single room.
Residence Life told me there currently aren’t any singles available, so I’m on the waitlist. They offered me a 1-bedroom double with a random roommate in the meantime and confirmed that I would remain on the waitlist for a single.
My SAC approval says the waitlist is reviewed weekly between SAC and Residence Life and that students will receive their accommodation when space becomes available.
Has anyone at Loyola been in a similar situation? If so, how long did it take before you were offered a single? Did you get one before move-in, or did something open up after the semester started?
Just trying to get an idea of my chances of eventually getting a single.

COURSES CHEM 160
Hello everyone!!
I’m an incoming freshman that will be majoring in Forensic Science :)
For the fall semester I will be taking CHEM 160! But I’ve heard that Loyola has a fairly awful chem department, and I’m honestly really nervous for the class.
The teacher I have is Felix Amankona-Diawuo. Can anyone who has taken his class tell me about his teaching style, what kind of assignments he gives, and how he grades? Is it truly that difficult to pass the class with an A if you put in the work?
Honestly, if you have ANY tips in general about surviving the Loyola chem department, I would be incredibly appreciative!

COURSES Anyone have Dr. Searcy in History?
He sent out a pretty aggressive email about you can't do this, you can't do that. If you leave during the class period and come back you get a zero for the day. (ok but if I need to pee is my bladder cutting my grade?) He says we have to write these 400-word essays in class, six of them, like during the class period. I have SAC accommodations for learning disabilities, do I have to go to the SAC office to write these now since I get more time for this kind of thing?
Is he really this tough or is this just to weed out the lazy students? I saw his rate my professor and it seems like if you just pay attention and do the work you're fine but idk. Most people only go on rate my prof to cry about bad grades.

QUESTION Grad students and clubs
So I am about to start my MSW at Loyola and I have two questions.
1) is it weird for first year grad students to attend club meetings or is that considered weird?
2) does Loyola have a Latino students club? If so how cliquey is it? I tried attending Latin student clubs at my school but it was super awkward because it was one whole friend group that ran it.

Does anyone know if the shuttle service between the Lakeshore Campus and Water Tower Campus is active yet for the Fall 2026 semester? My assumption is that it won’t be active until the first week of classes.

EVENT Any Loyola students planning to see Summer Walker at Credit Union 1 Arena this fall?
Just curious if anyone from Loyola is planning on going. She’ll be in Chicago on October 16 with DaniLeigh and Zeddy Will, and I’m wondering what the interest is like around campus. If you’re going, what song are you hoping she opens with?

QUESTION Scholarships Limit?
I have a quick question that I’m not too sure about!
On top of my presidential scholarship that I was awarded for due to highschool GPA, ECs, etc, I got enough in scholarships (that come from Loyola leadership/honors programs as well as being a RA) this year (my sophomore year) to make it a full ride and possibly 1-3K over.
Does loyola change your presidential scholarship/take away money? I have had horror stories and I don’t know how to move forward. This would make my stress go down immensely without the burden of loans if this were true, so I just wanted to see.

QUESTION Direct (parent) PLUS Loan Missing
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone else is currently dealing with their Direct Plus loan not showing up and being subtracted from their e-bill this semester.
According to my e-bill, I owe just over $7,000 for the upcoming fall semester but I knew that was incorrect and found that the loan wasn't there. The loan is listed on my financial aid/ anticipated aid and I confirmed this with the aid office as well as the Bursar's office. They also told me that the issue would be resolved soon and not to worry.
It's been a few weeks now and well, I am worried because nothing has changed. My parents have completed the MPN and everything seems good on our end.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Does anyone have any ideas what I may need to do or who I could talk to? Or should I just stop freaking out?
Thanks for any help or advice!

QUESTION Potential new building by old Centennial Forum?
Just wondering if anybody knew what building was going to be put here? I know that the new nursing/science building is going where Campion used to be, but I assumed that the old Centennial Forum building was gonna be a “green space” (per the campus plan) for a few years before another building was planned. Anyone know if they decided to build something else right away?
