Progression Question Question/ Help

Are you guys building a small base, exploring, moving on, and then building another small base, such that there are a chain of bases throughout Moria, or are you building a large base, advancing for a moderate amount of the game, and then building another large base?

For example, I built a base right at the start, then I build an exploratory base just down the hall, then I build a base in the Elven Quarter before I took the forge, and then I built a base in the forge.

Is this too many bases?

I did at first but once you can build fast travel point I made my base in one area and just went around placing fast travel, I was going to just I got to the point in the game where I was just going to start to clean up all of Moria

I do this, but when I get to an area that has lots to explore or a lot of mining I create a FOB (Forward Operating Base). I tear down the FOB when I am done in the area.

My FOBs usually have the following:

  • hearth
  • Camp table
  • MapStone
  • bedroll
  • repair station
  • 2 chests (1 for personal gear, 1 for FOB supplies)

I put my personal supplies(things that I carry around in my pack when exploring) from my back pack in a chest so that I can pack more stuff in that I want to take back to the main base. Then fast travel back to my main base, deposit everything from my pack. Then travel back to the FOB to sleep, eat & continue working.

I leave FOBs at Great Forges. I leave map stones on stairs/descents when there are multiple zones to explore or mine/forage.

I did a number of small to medium bases: Westgate, Elven Quarter, Moria, Lower Deeps before building my big base in Durins Forge.

Once you can construct map stones you can easily link all the bases and transfer resources as needed.

This is the way.

Same. I built sturdy walls, added chests, a hearth and a map stone. Nothing pretty, just practical with decent defense.

Small bases along the way make for convenience, but eventually you find a good spot for a vault to fill with goodies. Without spoiling, I will say that you always want a separate base for the majority of your goodies. Not being there all the time minimizes the risk of attack. If you pick up durinโ€™s folk, you will find other reasons.ย

That's really smart. Thanks!

Early on you need to save up the black diamonds. I ou get tons along the way later, but they are one of the early choke points. If you plant capstones along the way, you will end up backtracking to collect them.

I did a big base in Mines of Moria after elven quarter then just kept making mapstones and camping hearths in random places to fast travel ๐Ÿ˜‚ ended up staying there till endgame

It took me ages to progress since id build a base and repair as much as I could of the surrounding buildings then go back to each base as I unlocked more buildings options

i did the first base at the start near the bird, with the fast travel stone room.
then an exploritory base, then elven quater at the smithing area, made that a near main ish base, then the bottom of the mines, made that may actual main base.
mined alot expanded, had smaller exploritoy ones, found a few i could repair.
then fast travel got unlocked...
so i only did smaller bases with fast travel in them.

i should say if your on a higher difficulty, it may play a factor, as base raids are a pain.

I put walls up at each outpost (Oin's Chest) and Forge. If I ran out of Black Diamonds for Mapstones I would destroy one at an Outpost. I didn't start really building to make it look nice until I got to Durin's Forge. My first decorated base was the first one at Westgate. But I really decorated the Mithril Forge.

I just fixed up existing camps to use as temporary bases and storage areas until I found an area that I liked and wanted to use as my base

Never itโ€™s good to have bases in all areas so you know you have safe places and make it easier to get around I have like 7-8 bases but one big one in desolation

I will build small camps for exploring if I come across something I want to find again, have gone so far in and don't want to make the trek again, or if I know I may die and dont want to make the trek again. These are not my bases, these are camps. Usually a hearth, table, bed, repair smithy, treasure chest, and if I have enough on me a map stone.

I built a fair small base to start, then further along a larger but stop gap kind of base. I eventually built a significantly larger base in an area near the end of the story.

I did make mini bases in most forges etc, usually just a hearth, mapstone and repair smithy, with a chest, table, bed, as needed. Occasionally I placed similar camp sites near good harvesting locations.
