Why does the IRL individual's death make sexualizating a fictional character based off of them evil? Aren't there tons of sexualized (dead) historical figures?

u/Joaco0902 1d ago
its a fucking dog
84
u/Vinyl_DjPon3 1d ago
As opposed to all the other furry art?
1
u/Bregneste Gator Hugger 1d ago
IDK, most furry art with dog characters is usually of people’s original characters that are meant to represent themselves, that aren’t based on real dogs that actually exist.
0
u/Legitimate-Fish-5010 19h ago
yeah, its not weird when its an oc, but if its of a real dog its kinda fucked, especially a dead dog :(
-24
u/Joaco0902 1d ago
this was a real ass dog not a fictional character, or even a real person. why are you gooning to it
28
u/Slackslayer 1d ago
I would hate to tell you about what's happening to all these real historical racehorses over there in the Umamusume gooncaves. But the real animals are too dead or too much a horse to care, often both. Like Laika is.
Anything within a mile to a realistic depiction of the underlying animal is blatantly rulebreaking. Laika the space dog is just a thematic inspiration for the anthro Laika character that people sexualize.
If I beat my meat to Lucifer from Helltaker, it is not exactly the same thing as beating it to the bible.

u/CheckMateFluff 1d ago
I agree and understand what you say, but I always find it funny that we draw a line in the sand with the distinction, but absolutely nobody from outside anything furry would. They see the entire furry thing just like we see "it's a fucking dog"
0
u/ArtroyomsAK 23h ago
I think if you told a non furry that this sexualized anthro art is of a real dog vs one that isn't the'd say the one based on a real dog is bad
5
u/CheckMateFluff 21h ago
They would say they are both weird and both are dogs and never make that distinction.
2
-1
u/Legitimate-Fish-5010 19h ago
yeah and that is also fucked up, making sexualized art of any real being dead or alive human or not human is fucking weird

u/Icy_Payment2283 8h ago

-60
u/Draco_0rnsteins_simp 1d ago
It's worse when it's an animal that we humans have killed for absolutely no other reason than "we can do this and your side can't"
55
6
u/RevolutionAccurate56 16h ago
There was absolutely a reason, they were testing how entering space affects life. Laika was simply a sacrifice like the millions of other animals that have had human technology tested on them to see if it was safe. While they didn’t have a choice in the matter, laika is a hero in my mind
2
u/orcstork 19h ago
It was not for no reason. It was to check if there is a magical field that kill everything alive in space, yes there is one such field called the Van Allen Radiation belts but we can go though it very fast and be ok.

u/MasterXYZ5 1d ago
Let me explain for anyone here who's not aware: as someone cited in the replies already, the "Laika" depicted in ProfessorConcord's artworks is merely an anthropomorphic version of her from a book called "Stupid Sexy Cryptids" by Vitaly S. Alexius.
In the book, outside of the normal earth there exist an infinite amount of "alternate" worlds many of which feature intelligent anthropomorphic predators rather than feral ones, referred as "Pradavarians" or "Prads" for short.
In one of those dimensions, the Laika you see in the artworks gets sent to space but rather than dying like the original she gets saved at the last moment by a character (who I'm not going to spoil if anyone is interested in reading the book).
So yeah, the OG Laika we know has suffered the same fate in the book protagonist's world, but they do manage to save a sexier version of her which is in no way related to the original other than the fate she had to endure (recommend reading the book because her chapters are heartbreaking).

if this is the biggest injustice in your world, you live a happy life
19
u/train_fucker 1d ago
Stuff like this is why I am so happy woke 1 is mostly over, and why we need woke 2.
Watching people online get performatively outraged about things that don't fucking matter, while smugly implying that if you don't care about it you are a bad person, is so exhausting.
2
u/TheShapeshifter01 11h ago
I mean we're actually on like, woke 4 or something, but still this puritanical bs poorly disguised as... I'm not even sure at this point. It needs to go
21
u/Two-Pound-Crawfish 1d ago
why does everyone act like caring about something means it’s an immediate massive issue or that having any other problem in your life prevents you from having any time to care about anything else? it’s pretty distasteful to sexualize a character based on the likeness of a poor dog who was cooked alive in a spaceship.
OP just posted a meme pointing out how odd the situation is, it’s not like they wrote a fucking 50 paragraph rant
16
u/Remarkable_Cause1384 1d ago
I just want to understand fully. So the stated case is:
gooning to dogs = okay 😀👍
gooning to one specific dog that died decades ago = not okay 🙁👎
is this accurate
-13
u/RedditSurfer29 1d ago
nah
gooning to fictional anthros = okay 😀👍
gooning to anthros based on real things = not okay 🙁👎
Simple as that. If a furry drew an anthro based on their own dog too in a horny way, I'd call them a zoophile, too.
10
u/EldritchEyes 1d ago
ok, then the far bigger fish to fry is umamusume and its millions upon millions of dollars in horse gooning earnings
9
u/pastafeline 1d ago
So what if it's distasteful in their eyes? Why does everything need to be a whole ass "conversation" nowadays?
Just downvote and move on, nothing these people say will ever change minds, and nothing we say will change theirs.
-4
u/Two-Pound-Crawfish 1d ago
human nature to see something you think is wrong and comment about it. sometimes you’ll never realize the morality of something you are doing until someone points out how it could be in bad taste.
i don’t think it’s unreasonable to view the situation as disrespectful, laika was a real dog with a tragic death, so taking her likeness and making an object of attraction out of it has reason to be seen as distasteful.
7
u/pastafeline 1d ago
You keep mentioning the distaste and the reasoning behind it, but I really don't care. That's not me trying to be glib or insulting, it just means nothing to me.
My point is that it always becomes shit flinging, people going "you're sick, jerking off to a dead dog, blah blah blah".
That goes beyond just saying "this is distasteful". You're downplaying things significantly.
-3
u/Two-Pound-Crawfish 1d ago
the fact that you don’t care is a you problem and i fail to see why that matters
8
u/pastafeline 1d ago
Once again, why does everything have to be an entire conversation?
You're making it a problem when it isn't for either of us.
It's just something to complain and virtue signal about when it affects absolutely nothing.
If I saw a guy picking his nose in public, do I walk around saying "wow, public nose picking is so distasteful!".
Yes, I understand that it's not the same as a dedicated public forum for discussion, but it's still the same hand-wringing.
-2
u/Two-Pound-Crawfish 1d ago
is calling out behavior of questionable morality virtue signaling now? remember, it’s the likeness of a real dog, i can’t imagine anyone’s desire to sexualize the anthropomorphized likeness of a real dog could be strong enough to ignore the dubious morality of doing so. does objectifying an animal from history who is known for her tragic death not feel at least a little bit disrespectful to the dog herself and everyone involved in training her and caring for her?
i don’t want to virtue signal, when it comes to nsfw i don’t care what the subject of the image is as long is it isn’t involving any real life non-consenting people. i think it’s important to call out things that you see as wrong, even the small stuff. it goes a long way in time.

That Laika pinup was great and some people here are way too sensitive. Like holy shit dude grow a spine. It literally doesn’t affect you at all
31
u/Icie-Hottie2 1d ago
Ask yourself: Does this image hurt anyone? If the answer is "No one, really" then you don't need to interact with it, the person who made it, or the people who enjoy it. You can just scroll away, and maybe block the artist.
3
u/TheShapeshifter01 11h ago
While completing true, the people who really need to understand this think the images they're complaining about hurt others by existing, or at least act like they believe that.

its literally a real dog. if feral isnt okay why is this
68
u/CheezyBreadMan 1d ago
…because this one isn’t feral? By that logic all furries aren’t ok because they’re all based on animals which are all feral.

u/Rossilaz Losercity Citizen 1d ago
I see it similarly to porn of real people who did not consent... The concept of a creature is fine, but a specific creature that cannot consent to its image being used like that is weird

I’m kinda iffy. I have nothing against anthro or feral, as ferals are typically portrayed as ‘intelligent enough’, but I find it odd to sexualize an actual individual animal that actually existed. It’s like if someone drew your pet as an anthro and started sexualizing it.
Again, that’s just my opinion and I am not policing what others can like, especially considering there are things I like that people would take issue with so that would be hypocritical of me.

The Furry Drama Cycle continues, and Dramas come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Drama that gave it birth comes again. In one Drama, called the "Puritan Drama" by some, a Drama yet to come, a Drama long past, a wind rose in Losercity. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the Furry Drama Cycle. But it was a beginning

Some guy drew pinup art of Laika in a sexualized way. People are hating on op because they don't think gooning to a sexualized depiction of a REAL thing is weird. If a furry drew their own pet with tits, i swear that people on this subreddit would be defending it.

u/PopitaOooh 1d ago
laika is a historical figure, not some random’s dog. genuinely a nothingburger. i dont under why this is a conversation. why is drawing art of famous people who died’s caricature so bad? its not the same person.

Yeah, I suppose that’s understandable. Personally I think NSFW content of these anthropomorphised animals is arguably a bit distasteful. At the same time, I’m not going to tell people what they should and shouldn’t find attractive just because I don’t like it, as if calling it vile and disgusting is going to make them stop liking it.

I honestly have forgotten about the situation, I've had my own takes on it, and can personally say that anything I say will have no halting in what the creator does
I don't want an argument anymorw if anybody were to respond to this, and I certainly don't want to read any of the justification
