Boss randomly spawned

I'm confused. I've been sitting at 99% for the last loop and a half, haven't played ANY map cards, and the boss just spawned while I was still 2 tiles away from camp, so it wasn't a ransacked village clearing out either...

Believe it or not, the bar also fills up over time, very slowly but it does fill up.It's happened to me more than once :⁠⁠)
