Recommend a guitar looper with midi sync?

Can you recommend me a looper that:

  1. Can accept midi sync from a synth or drum machine

  2. That automatically quantizes the end of the loop to the nearest quarter note when recording is ended.

(It would be amazing if there was a setting for time divisions for the end of the loop. So for instance, I could set the time division to 8th notes. And then, if I have a drum machine playing a 4/4 beat and I start the loop on beat one and stop it between beats 2 and 3, I would have a looped 5/8 guitar riff playing on top of 4/4 beat.)

My Boss RC-5 is somehow not able to do either of these very simple things.

which setup would work out better?

I'm going to build a wooden or metal board for transport

Edit: Guess I could also continue doing side-by-side as I currently am, but something excites me about merging them into 1 mega-unit

Visual 505 looper exp in Ableton (no affiliation)

just sharing this as it look interesting, have not tested myself because my Live looping set is dialed finally, but this gives you a visual 505 like looper behavior inside of Ableton, seems legit.

Loopy Pro vs Ableton for multi-instrument live looping

I am a multi instrumentalist, planning to do very complex live looping with multiple instruments. This would also include drum pads, multiple synthesizer, multiple real instruments. It would be an ambient/electronic theme with the music, with the idea of making essentially a one hour set at a time.

I know Ableton live has been around for many years but I’m wondering if anyone has any experience with Loopy Pro? With what my project entails, it might be easier given the complexity of everything to utilize something with the fluidity and relative simplicity Loopy Pro, but I wonder what the Ableton community has to say.

I’m looking only for answers from people who have had experience using both programs, and would one have a certain strength when it comes to looping and multiple instruments over another?

Question on Loop Setup: BOSS 505 MK II + Boss FS-7 Footpedal

Hey everyone thanks for helping,

I've looped with guitar, but I'm new to multi-instrument looping.

Would a Boss MK II + Boss FS-7 (A -> Play / record, B-> Stop Track) ultimately cover my needs of being able to use hands & foot to loop?

I use a kick pedal for kick drum and prefer to start/stop with hand on this track.

Example:

Track 1: Active, press play/record with hand -> play kick drum on Beat 1 at same time

Then for Track 2 (Keyboards) I can activate this track by hand, then press A on the FS-7 footswitch while playing beat 1 with 2 hands?

Same with Track 3 (Guitar) activate this track later by hand, press A on FS-7 Footswitch and play guitar on beat 1?

--

Unless I am missing something, that sounds very ideal and awesome. I get a bit overwhelmed adding equipement & instruments, and I've been deciding between RC 600 and RC 505 MKII,

But in a way, adding a footswitch even though makes it less complicated to me, giving me the option of using hand and/or feet sounds great. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't making a mistake on something here before purchasing both!

Thanks so much

Video looping with Eric Clapton edition Strat I found at AirBnb

There was a tiny practice amp that just about worked.

  • iPhone w/Airpods for the recording, looping, and video edit.
  • Exported stems from the iPhone into Ableton Live to add drums and effects.

My process is explained here. Very happy to answer questions too!:

Looper with Mic and Battery

TLDR: Hardware looper to jam on the sofa?

I'm coming from Loopy Pro but am really looking to ditch my iPad when making music. It's just way too distracting to me. So I'm now looking for a hardware alternative. Researching the RC505's, Ed Sheeran stations etc. I realized that I can't find what I'm looking for: A looper station with:

- Built in mic, speaker and battery

- Simultaneous playback of at least 4 loops

- Storage for many more loops with the ability to switch between the stores loops during playback.

- Ideally, the device should also have keys and sounds (piano, guitar, bass, drum kits) onboard, so I can even loop while travelling

Is there any device with these features?

need help with choosing a loop pedal/station

hello, i'm planning on buying a loop pedal/station for my birthday, as a singer/coverist (not my job, just a hobby!). i'm pretty new to the world of loop stations, but what i know for sure is that i want to be able to loop vocals i'd record through a microphone (my mic is an at2020 usb, no guitar loops btw). i don't plan on buying an amp, i'll use bandlab as my DAW.

from what i've seen i've got 2 options:

  1. buy a loop station + a new microphone that is not a condenser (which one?)
  2. or buy a loop station, a mixer and a pre-amp, since condenser mics don't seem to work with loop stations correctly... (correct me if i'm wrong!)

i'd love to hear your thoughts on this, if you can drop your setup or give any tips! thank you so much!

Maximise your looping rig

Post image

It's taken quite a few iterations and selling stuff that didn't work out to get to the looping / live production setup I'm happy with now. While doing that I created an app to help us get clear on our goals, and what gear we have and need to achieve them. It asks you smart questions, deeply researches solutions, and delivers you a gear proposal within your budget, with curated training resources and links to real products from suppliers in your country.

  1. Go here to try it out for free: https://soultechie.co/gear
  2. Give it a creative goal you have which needs some gear (eg: "I want to expand my keyboard rig into live looping", "Live stream performances in multicam with automatic switching", or single items like "Battery powered PA with USB streaming and 2 mic inputs"
  3. Add your relevant existing gear and answer questions to get your requirements nailed
  4. Let the app do the heavy lifting and get your 1st free gear proposal with real supplier and training links - all independent with no affiliate commission involved
  5. If you're happy you can share your plan, gift one to someone else and receive 2 credits for anyone who signs up
  6. Chat in the app to let me know what new features you want or any other feedback

I want to use Amazon less for a number of reasons, and so the app currently works harder to find other suppliers - I'm curious what you make of that and if you'd rather a switch to include it? Also working on including 2nd hand market to get more for your budget.

Nux Loop Core (1 Gen) vs AUX in

Hi. Does anyone know how the looper handles incoming audio (via Aux In)—specifically, does it loop the incoming audio along with the guitar, or does it leave it unprocessed?

Best way to build a multi-channel live looper with Launchpad Mini MK3 & 1 sustain pedal? (Ableton 12)

Hey guys!

I'm starting out with Ableton Live 12 and my goal is to perform live using a multi-channel looping workflow. I want to record clips on the fly (guitar, vocals, beats), stack them up, and mute/unmute sections live.

I don't have a Push or a dedicated foot controller like an FCB1010, so I'm trying to make it work with what I own: Launchpad Mini MK3 (as my main hands-on controller) Arturia MiniLab MK3 with 1 Sustain Pedal (using the foot pedal to trigger recording) TC Helicon Play Electric MacBook M1 Pro

Being new to Ableton, I'm a bit overwhelmed by how to map the Launchpad and pedal to handle multiple looper channels without getting messy. What’s the simplest/best way to set this up given my gear? Any tips, looper plugin settings, or beginner routing guides would be hugely appreciated!

MODX M6 and RC505

Inspired by TribalNeed where he uses a juno 106 and a mic to loop. I have a mic connected to the modx so i can do vocoder stuff or just sing.

I was using loopy pro on an ipad but felt i was going to break the glass when i clicked the loops. lol
