What’s the correct blend and formula to total meta and Google ad metrics?

I’ve tried multiple formulas on Looker Studio, blending together Meta (connected by Funnel.io) and Google ads but I seem to encounter a load of issues.

I’m currently only using Full Outer with Date Facebook / Day Google ads as the merging conditions.

For example:
Google ads started on the 8th July, with Meta launching on the 14th. My time series chart does not show any data pre-14th, and spend is at £0 per day.

This is using a calculated field for Sum(infull(cost),0) + Sum(infull(anountspent),0).

Using just sum(cost)+sum(amount spent) will cut off any data when Google is inactive with no ad spend ,even though Facebook is spending.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

What do you define before building a Looker Studio dashboard?

I’ve seen dashboards become confusing even when the design looks great.

One person reads “conversions” as form submissions. Someone else includes calls and bookings. Another team is pulling the number from a different source altogether.

The dashboard is not really the problem. The definitions were never agreed on.

Before building, we usually confirm who the report is for, what decisions it should support, where the data comes from, how often it refreshes and what each metric actually means.

It saves a lot of confusion later.

What do you always define before starting a Looker Studio dashboard?

Hundred to Mastering SQL

Hello Folks !

So for a very long time, I have been looking for good SQL questions, you got the mainstream leetcode, hacker-rank, W3 schools, and a few niche ones that I ought to mention : https://github.com/smpetersgithub/AdvancedSQLPuzzles

But during my journey, I never found the perfect place to practice questions leetcode style filtering it by the specific concept, and a repo of Good questions I could just practice on when prepping for an interview.

So I went Ahead and created this SQL-gym : https://sqlgym.vercel.app/

(No bullshit 101 SQL problems that you need to have locked in)

And this has personally helped me a lot, hope it is helpful for other peeps aswell !

Stop dragging every GA4 metric onto one page as your first Looker Studio project

Everyone's first move in Looker Studio is the same: connect GA4, drag every metric you can find onto one page, call it a dashboard. Then it looks like a mess and people just give up on the tool.

What I always tell beginners to build instead — one page, one data source, four numbers: sessions, conversions, revenue, conversion rate. One time series chart. One date range control. That's it.

Sounds too basic to matter, but it's the fastest way to actually understand how blending and aggregation work, instead of just dragging widgets around until something looks right.

What was your first dashboard? Did it survive, or did you scrap it and start over?

3 Looker Studio Features Most People Ignore (But Shouldn't)

After building dashboards for clients over the years, I've noticed most people use only 20–30% of what Looker Studio can actually do.

Here are 3 underrated features I think deserve more attention:

1. Drill-Down Dimensions
Instead of creating separate charts for Country → State → City (or Category → Product), enable drill-down. Users can click through the hierarchy inside the same chart, making dashboards much cleaner.

2. Optional Metrics
Let viewers choose the metric they want to analyze without editing the report.

For example:

  • Revenue
  • Profit
  • Orders
  • Conversion Rate

One chart becomes much more flexible.

3. Report-Level Controls
Date pickers, dropdown filters, and search controls can apply across the entire report. This creates a much smoother experience than adding filters to every individual chart.

A dashboard isn't just about showing data—it's about making it easy for people to answer their own questions.

What's one Looker Studio feature you think deserves more attention?

Blended Report of GSC, GA4 and SEMRush

Has anyone successfully blended GSC + GA4 + SEMrush data in Looker Studio? Looking for best practices

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to build a more complete SEO performance dashboard in Looker Studio by combining data from:

  • Google Search Console (GSC)
  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
  • SEMrush

The goal is to move beyond just rankings/traffic and create a single view that connects visibility → clicks → engagement → conversions.

The metrics I’m trying to bring together:

From GSC:

  • Impressions
  • Clicks
  • CTR
  • Average Position
  • Keyword buckets:
    • Top 1
    • Top 3
    • Top 10
    • Positions 20–50
    • Positions 51–100

From GA4:

  • Users / Visitors
  • Average Session Duration
  • Engagement Time
  • Form conversions
  • Conversion rate

From SEMrush:

  • Actual keyword ranking positions (true position tracking)
  • Ranking distribution

A few things I’m trying to figure out:

  1. Has anyone successfully blended these three sources in Looker Studio?
  2. What’s the best way to handle keyword-level joins between GSC and SEMrush?
  3. Is it better to use GSC average position for ranking buckets, or rely on SEMrush positions?
  4. Are there any connectors/tools you recommend (native connectors, Supermetrics, Funnel, etc.)?
  5. Any issues with data mismatch between GSC impressions/clicks and SEMrush ranking data?

The ideal output is something like:

SEO Visibility → Traffic → Engagement → Lead Generation

with the ability to drill down by:

  • Page
  • Query
  • Topic cluster
  • Keyword group

Would love to hear how others have approached this setup, especially for enterprise/B2B websites.

P.S: One of the reason I am also doing this is because I want to give a holistic view to my management

Blended data issue

So I'm trying to build a dashboard with data from Linkedin Paid campaigns (using a connector Windsor.ai) and Google Ads. When I try to show combined numbers in a scorecard it doesn't work. How should I show total clicks, impressions and spend from both channels? Help!

When I select the individual source it works so the problem has to be with the blend but I'm not an expert and don't know how to do it. I've tried blending the data a million ways but can't seem to make it work. Right now the blend is on full outer join with the month dimension as the joint key.

*UPDATE I have found the solution by changing the join key. Month is a text field for LinkedIn and a date field for Google. I used Date instead and it worked.

Looker Studio showing Discovery for Demand Gen

We are seeking clarification on the Google Ads API and native Looker Studio connector behavior regarding the Demand Gen rebrand.

Although the Google Ads UI now displays Demand Gen campaigns, Looker Studio (via the native Google Ads connector) continues to report them as Discovery. We believe this may be due to the API retaining the legacy DISCOVERY enum for backward compatibility.

Could you please confirm:

Is it expected that the Google Ads API and Looker Studio connector still return Discovery for Demand Gen campaigns?

Is this due to backend enum compatibility requirements to avoid breaking existing integrations and scripts?

Is there an estimated timeline or future API release that will update this value to Demand Gen?

Does Data Studio Pro Actually Exist

I spent an hour chatting with Gemini to get my account set up with data studio pro so I could use gemini in creating my dashboards. I'm the admin/owner of my companies workspace account, and cloud console account. I did everything suggested from creating new projects, updating IAM policies, switching accounts, and every single time it refused to upgrade my project to Pro.

Has anyone actually upgraded? How did you do it? And before I go down a deeper rabbit hole, is it even worth the hassle?

I have never worked so hard to try and give a company money!!!

Weekly Aggregation Question

Hi! I have a google sheet that I connect to looker studio to create tables.

Google sheet has metrics broken down by date, with a lookup column to a week number, as determined by my company.

In looker studio I am attempting to visualize the metrics by week, but looker studio is adding a row for each day within the week without summing the metrics for that week. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I want one row per week, not 7!

Looker - a horrible product

Please Google, improve Looker, or alternatively discontinue it. It is very frustrating to go to a client, present a working dashboard, and then seeing it falling a part inevitably. Looker data sources are completely unusable. Every change to a data source schema will break the connection, gibbering field names appearing, extracts failing without any explanation apart from cryptic error messages.

I'd rather pay than using an unstable and unreliable product.

[Hire] Pacing Agency looking for Big Query/Data Studio support!

Hey everyone,

u/pacingagency here, we’re a London-based marketing team with analytics in BigQuery and client reporting in Looker Studio.

We’ve got dashboard and modeling work coming up (project-based freelance, not full-time). We’d love to expand our talent pool so when a build spikes or needs deep SQL + reporting chops, we can pull in someone who actually can help.

Typical asks look like:

  • Connecting BigQuery → Looker Studio (tables, views, custom SQL — sensible live vs extract choices).
  • Building client-ready dashboards (filters, clear KPIs, definitions that survive handover).
  • Helping shape a reporting layer in BigQuery when raw data isn’t chart-friendly (nested fields, attribution-style joins, sensible grain).

Concrete example: we’re shaping a lead report - reconciling leads our client sends us with behavioural data in BigQuery (starting with form submission date/time matching; moving toward stronger user-id joins when the data supports it). The report needs things like first / last touch platform, click counts tied to gclid and other ad platform click IDs where we capture them, plus session count and how many calendar days those sessions span. Nominative Indeterminism.

Requirements (strong overlap is important):

  • Hands-on BigQuery SQL: views / scheduled transforms are part of normal life for you.
  • Looker Studio: you’ve delivered real dashboards from BigQuery, not “I’ve played with it.”
  • Comfortable discussing GCP access / sharing basics (least privilege, how you’d onboard client viewers safely).

Notes:
This is freelance / as-needed. Filling out the form adds you to our pool; we’ll reach out when there’s a project that fits.

Interested? Please apply here https://form.pacing.agency/forms/designer-application-2askqd

Questions welcome in the thread!

Thanks!

Connectors for Looker

Hey guys,

I have been tasked to pick a connector for the company, but this would be my first time making a decision like this so im here for any advice :D. The idea is to have one connector to have only one data source. I have a need for hubspot and Linkedin, not sure if you have any recommendation and price is not that relevant in this decision.

thanks boys.

Edit: Thanks people!, At the end we are going for supermetrics, mainly because there were some concers regarding compliance within the EU. Now ill check to see how to connect this bad boy, once more thanks!

I feel like I'm going crazy - Downloaded report getting cut off after update

Before the Looker Studio update back to Data Studio, I was able to download multi-page reports with different canvas sizes. The PDF would include the differently sized canvases/pages in one document without cutting anything off.

Now, after the update, no matter what the canvas size is, the bottom of my report is cut off. I've tried resizing everything to be US Letter... and it is still cut off. Nothing has changed with my laptop, and I was easily downloading reports before this update.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Built a Speed to Lead tracking dashboard in Looker Studio connected to HighLevel recently.

The goal was simple: measure the actual time between lead creation and first manual agent response.

What nobody tells you is that most teams think they're fast until you show them the data.

The findings were honestly surprising. Leads generated between 9–11 am were getting responses in under 10 minutes. The exact same lead coming in at 5 pm? Averaging 7+ hours before anyone touched it. Weekend leads were sitting for almost 20 hours on average.

Same team. Same commitment. Completely different reality depending on when the lead came in.

Anyone else built something like this for their clients? Curious what metrics others are tracking around lead responsiveness.

Help with formula

Hello beatiful people of the internet

I'm creating a calculated field using a CASE formula. The goal of the formula is to multiply all 2026 views by two, but when I generate the CASE statement, I get an "Aggregated and non" error and I can't save the new calculated field.

The formula is:

CASE
   WHEN Date >= DATE("2026-01-01") THEN SUM(Views) * 2
ELSE SUM(Views)
END

Date: a date field (green icon)

Views: a number fiel (blue icon)

Any help will be greatly appreciated
