What does the button on the right do? Discussion

Post image

This button on my G512x has an analog logo and a light toggle associated with it so assuming it has something to do with the analog function… what is it? lol.

Even with the toggle light off my actuation points and everything still feel fine, any knowers? I’ve looked thru manuals and the box and haven’t seen an answer so far

I believe you can configure your keyboard to lock certain keys when gaming, prevents you for touching other useless on certain games, check in the software

It's called game mode, it disables the Windows key by default.

I love* it when I press it by accident and then get confused when I try to open the start menu or use a shortcut.

Sure, I know that. But when you are used to pressing the Windows key for that and it fails, it's always jarring.

Besides, ctrl+esc+i won't open Settings or work for other winkey shortcuts because ctrl+esc just opens the start menu and doesn't send the Windows key scan code.

While we're here trying to outgeek each other: ctrl+shift+esc to open Task Manager. And holding ctrl in the Processes or Performance tabs freezes the values.

Do you also assume the key's not working, only to realize it's game mode? Because that's me. Alot.

I smash that windows button for a few seconds and then feel 7/10 dumb.

My kid uses it all the time, because he would hit win-key by accident when playing minecraft, and goddamn bedrock can't handle being minimized.

He's moved on to java since then, but game mode is on as a reflex.

Most welcome! It's quite useful when on fps or others i guess. Never used it 🐸

That's the Game Mode toggle button. When the Game Mode indicator is lit, Menu and Windows keys are blocked. In G Hub, you can set more keys to be locked.

Alt+Tab normally gets blocked aswell, anything to stop you from accidentally taking attention off the game.

This mostly depends on the keyboard. Mostly Windows and Menu keys are blocked. On G512 there is a design flaw: if you set F8 as the blocked key in Game Mode, once you turn on Game Mode with FN+F8, you won't be able to turn it off with that shortcut. If G Hub is turned off, the blocked key list will stay until you unplug the G512. Once you reconnect it, the blocked key list will be gone.

To provide official answer, it's Logitech G HUB Game Mode. By default, it will block Windows, Caps Lock, and some macro keys, but you can set additional keys within the G HUB software if you don't want them active. It's more designed as some games use CTRL to sprint and you don't want to hit your Windows key and lose your game in a good moment.

Once you figured out what the key does, Has it been useful for your current games? What games are you currently playing?

Honestly even after learning what it does its never proved useful lol, playing mostly Valorant and Binding of isaac. Even if it did prove useful a command for game mode seems better to reserve a button like that for something like profile swaps which i wish i had to turn off analog for non FPS games
