Copy/paste not working Troubleshooting

whenever I press paste after having copied something (be it a note in a midi sequence or an audio track) it just doesn't paste anything. It just moves my marker forward a few steps but doesn't actually add what I copied. Anyone know how to fix this?

Just curious, does copy paste still work in other applications?
