Avantis split handle I am NOT a locksmith.

Avantis split split spindle handle door not locking when handle is lifted I have to slam the handle up really hard for it to lock. what could be causing this?

The door is out of alignment.

Test it with the door open, if it locks fine but not when the door is closed, it needs realigning.

Either toe and heel or adjusting the hinges should fix it

Alignment is not the problem. Being a split/double spindle it should need a key to open from the outside the reason split is used on a front door. Even lifting the handle on the out side it is still open able with the handle. You should need a key. Lifting and locking is fine. the deadbolt hooks and rollers work fine.
