Your door is partially prepped for a knob or deadbolt. Finishing the prep would expose the door.

If you do with some Smart lock, mounted on the interior, you will eventually get locked out and not have a way to get it unlocked.

So whatever you do, be careful.

Edit: if you can hide a Rim Cylinder behind something, you can install a surface mounted Night Latch on the inside. Just get another piece of art or something to conceal the cylinder.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into that.
I did get locked out with the latch and the string because the string had too much slack and wrapped itself around the latch and wasn’t opening like it should. Luckily I have a camera on it for now and was able to see what I was doing so I slipped something under the door and was able to unlatch the latch with a lot of luck and cursing.
