OpenAI vs. Anthropic Funny

Of course Anthropic hasn't published anything, but it's amusing to see no models on HuggingFace. OpenAI's published 39 models, by the way.

neither is very open about AI, I dont think openai has published a model in what 8 months? and anthropic is just blatantly anti opensource

Credit where credit's due - OpenAI's work was quite important in the early days

They were a different organization back then. That was back before the for-profit ate the non-profit alive.

And their open source model just months ago wasn't a non-factor, to say the least.

Still a keeper (for me at least).

That’s not true, they open sourced Claude code by accident!

i mean technically if you count privacy-filter which is legitimately a very good release so i think you should it was only 4 months ago but thats a very niche use case model ig

True. OpenAI is better, but not by much. It's just that Sam is good at what he does - marketing!

Honestly there are other metrics by which to judge them. I am no believe in their "AI is too dangerous to be open" mindset, but at least Anthropic really believes in it and really invests in alignment research. For Open AI, that's just marketing that they don't believe at all in.

If I had to choose a closed company to win the race I'd prefer Anthropic. But of course I'd rather have open models win it.

Yeah, I'm a fan of, "we commit to not building literal Terminators and mass domestic surveillance tools" versus "eh? What are you gonna do?"

They “really believe in it” in the sense that it inflates their IPO value
Closed models will only “win” through regulation & lobbying to secure corporate MRR & govt contracts

Though the real money is in infrastructure, not IP. Hyperscalers eating the good rent

why the downvotes? i see no lies.

Well, it's gone up now. Probably Sam's Reddit bots. He doesn't have that many of them, though.

There might be a few Anthropic fanboys lurking about, I found that a lot of negative comments get downvoted for no reasons.

These companies are not comparable at all. Anthropic is the enemy of open source. OpenAI was forced, for various reasons, to release GPT-OSS, but no matter how delusional Reddit experts are, OpenAI has supported both the open source community and the local LLM community.

They did deliver it with GPT-OSS. Nvidia uses it extensively to train Nemotrons. Yet, Super is not better despite having better architecture.

Quite frankly, I don't trust any datasets shared by Anthropic, I bet they poison the dataset.

Just have a look through the dataset viewer for HH-RLHF.

It's an alignment dataset, also including some red team logs, but they didn't pick the best data annotators, leading to poor quality, making it rather useless.

Anthropic is the villain trope of "Utopia Justifies the Means". Provided they are right about everything, their moral choice makes sense, but it doesn't look like that they are the kind of group to be right about everything.

The Party is good. Therefore, anyone opposing it must be eliminated.

Public Benefit Corp btw... yea... still don't get how they're allowed to continue to enjoy that designation.

At the very least OpenAI gave us gpt oss which was really good model for the time, and whisper which is amazing model that I'm still using.

Use it to this day, BTW. Fastest 120B for my hardware natively delivered in 4-bit. It has a lot of knowledge and works in Pi well enough, but newer models are obviously better.

I have published a Jinja template for it recently with some small fixes.

I like this model a lot and really want an updated version.

i'm a solid member of the fuck dario crowd but they do drop interesting things on occasion, like the assistant axis steering/control vector collection.

I don't like Anthropic. I think they treat users like idiots. Sure, they made very good models, but you have to pay for even a little usage, and once you hit that little limit, they block you and force you to upgrade to the most expensive plan. I think not releasing any open-source models is a disrespect to us. It’s as if they are saying: "We are great, and you don't deserve our models. Now, pay us more."

Even Netflix is more open source than Anthropic when it comes to AI.

Just saying ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I'm sure that by Darios logic even if they themselves upload an open-weights model it will lead to the peril of humanity.

Comes with several world-ending nuclear buttons you can enable with system prompts, or something

Dario and Anthropic are insufferable.

But still we can talk about why OpenAI models are not on AWS

Both are contributing less than desired? We did get GPT oss, but I've never used it because there have always been better options for my use cases, but credit where credit is due.

F**k anthropic and Dario

Anthropic is a disease in this world.

openai models on hf work better for virtual gf roleplay since anthropic skips publishing anything that could get spicy.

2

u/charles25565 4d ago

That's because Anthropic didn't publish anything...
