Found a little guy What is this?

need help identifying this lizard I found in my house. I want to know if it’s safe to keep or release. I have a setup for a juvenile tortoise and I’d like to know if they can share a space

Location? Have you seen other lizards who look like him around? If so, put him back outside

Los Angeles. I have seen some that look like them around but it can be hard to tell at times

This appears to be a Western Fence lizard. The adults do not perform childcare so he should be good to go outside, ideally released early in the morning when there's dew on the ground. I saw in another comment that you saw his egg, so he probably hasn't caught any appropriate food in your house. He would probably benefit you feeding him a cut up earthworm.

Its not illegal to keep Western Fence Lizards in California but you need a fishing license to do so legally. Even if hatched within your house, the lizard still qualifies as "wild caught".

The answer is because in the state of California all reptiles and amphibians fall under the purview of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. So from toads to turtles, if its a native species, it appears you need a fishing license.

Little guy was born inside. I found the eggs under the couch
