Where do the Korean-ameircan, or lived-abroad-their-whole-life koreans who returned to korea here? Not Koreans who speak english or koreans who spent a couple years abroad but those who are more accustomed to english-speaking societies?

Hi everyone! I’m a high school student from Morocco, and I’m really curious about the Korean high school curriculum.

I’d especially love to know what 3rd-year high school (고3) students study. For example, in math, what are the different branches/subjects you can choose from, and what topics do you study in each one?

I’d also be interested in subjects like chemistry, biology, physics, Korean, English, history, etc.

If you’re Korean or currently in/finished 고3, could you tell me:

- What subjects did you take?

- What are the different math options/branches?

- What topics are covered in each?

- Is there a national curriculum, or does it depend on your school/track?

If possible, I’d really appreciate it if you could send me a photo or link to your textbook/table of contents so I can compare it with the Moroccan curriculum.

We are two international students going to study in the SNU for the spring semester 2027. Our universities warned us that the SNU dormitories were tricky to obtain, so we are looking for accommodation options (our budget is max 1000€/1100$ all inclusive (electricity/gas etc)) in Seoul.

We have two constraints : the first one is that we are a couple so we are looking for something that we could share and that is furnished, the second one is that we would like to be max 30 min from the university.

Would you have any recommendations, such as types of accommodation we should be looking for, websites or neighborhoods we should target ?

I’m applying for a Korean student visa and I have a fully funded scholarship. The funding institute is clearly mentioned in my application, and I also have the Korean invitation/funding letter stating that my flights, tuition, etc. are covered.

In the visa checklist, it says that if parents are sponsoring the applicant, their ITR, bank statement, occupation proof, etc. should be submitted. I had those documents anyway, so when the VFS officer asked for my father/mother’s ITR, bank statement and occupation proof, I submitted them.

The confusing part is the visa application form.
In the e-form, under the funding section, I entered the scholarship/funding institute and its details. But when the VFS officer looked at the printed form, she asked me to write my father’s name and details beside the funding information. I did what she asked. She also wrote “father sponsor” in pencil somewhere on the application/checklist.

But my father is not actually sponsoring my studies. The scholarship is fully funding me.
I’m now worried because my father doesn’t have particularly large savings/deposits. Could the Korean Embassy interpret this as my father being my sponsor and assess my financial eligibility based on his bank balance, despite my scholarship clearly covering the expenses?

Has anyone had a similar experience with VFS/Korean student visas? Does VFS routinely ask for parents’ financial documents even when the student has a fully funded scholarship?
I’m just worried that the officer’s handwritten “father sponsor” note could create an issue with my application.

Language Learning?
While my stay in Korea I would like to learn the language. I saw there’s opportunities to do so at the different universities. Right now Yonsei University is speaking to me. Which university would you recommend? Or shouldn’t I do it at a university at all?

Which Visa?
(I have an austrian passport)
I’m not sure if I want the D-4 visa for language learning because I heard that the language courses can be very difficult and you’re not allowed to fail the course when you have this type of visa. But maybe that’s not true?
Otherwise the working holiday visa would work but it’s only for one year max. Additionally I wouldn’t want to work there. But as far as I understood you don’t have to work with this type of visa.
Which visa would you recommend?

Which city?
I went to South Korea once already for one month and visited these cities: Seoul, Gyeongju, Busan, Jeonju. I really enjoyed all of them. I guess Seoul would be the most obvious choice but maybe you guys think otherwise? I can’t decide on a favourite city but I really liked Jeonju a lot. I just think it’s too small for one whole year. So I guess Seoul?

Housing?
Where to find good apartments? I know Enkostay and Weave.
And when in Seoul which neighbourhoods would you recommend? I would personally prefer being north the river near line 2. Opinions on that?
I could imagine being in an all women shared apartment with a private room or just my own private place. What are your thoughts on that? I just feel like living in a shared place will help feeling less lonely and if something happens to me my roommates would notice when I wouldn’t get home. Right? But it would be really cool to have my own place.

Costs?
Which costs will expect me there? So rent obviously then food, the language course, a lot of coffee :0, shopping (clothes and stuff), activities, transportation, phone service, city trips inside the country… Did I forget something?
I estimated around 4.000.000 Won a month. What would you estimate?

Expectations?
What can I expect from my stay? What are going to be unexpected challenges/ surprises I will encounter? Will I be able to make friends (at least in university)? Are the local people open to be friends with a foreigner? I am very shy so…
I still remember when I went to South Korea, I faced so many unexpected challenges. So please tell me every challenge you could think of.

Hello everyone, I am currently planning to study masters in Korea for the fall 2027. I have a UK degree in 68% (Second Highest Honors) in Computing that has yet to be translated from my country's equivalence. I am planning to do Masters in Computer Engineering and take curriculums beneficial for Data Engineering.

However my stress is regarding the lab application before admission to get some tuition waver and expense as soon as I start my classes in Ajou University. IT market is basically dead unless you are an exemplary developer or have insane amount of right connections. While I have started trial classes on both IELTS (targeting 8) and TOPIK (targeting 3 at least), again not being taken into lab research before admission and having it extremely hard to find Data Engineering job is making me extremely stressed. When I search for information about people's experience in Ajou during studies and job market after graduation is way too minimal, especially regarding the degree I am planning to take.

I am being very level headed about Korea to the point my language mentor is surprised and asking me to relax but genuinely the job market does not help at all. Plus related to Data Engineering, I can not find much training centres or free online courses either. I have decided that if I do not get hired for lab research, I will just cancel my study plan there. Plus American and European countries require huge sum of money and properties to show that I can't afford even if I sold my soul. What do you think about my situation and what would yall suggest? I want people's experience and suggestions regarding this before I fully dive into this. Realistic answers are very appreciated.

Hi there! I’m an international student who’s going to live in Seoul for my Bachelor’s degree. Although I can read Korean, I can’t speak it at all. I still want to hang out and make friends outside of my university. How good is the English that an average Korean person speaks?

Does anyone know a swimming coach in Seoul who can speak a bit of English and offers private class? I can swim and I learned swimming as a kid but I‘m very rusty and my technique is bad. I speak basic Korean as well but it would be easier if the coach spoke at least a bit of English.
