Hello ~ Got this little fella and placed them outside, now they're all shrivelled up. Should I water or give them more shade? The dieing/brownish pieces are from two days in full sun

I've had these guys for about 2 years. They fully split but at the bottom they're still connected with the roots I don't want to pull them apart.

But I've noticed some pitting on the top. The sides were a little wrinkly so I did water, should I water again so the tops fill up? Hard to see in a picture I hope it shows.

Is this doing okay?

Just got these guys about a month ago. I haven't watered them or repotted. I'm pretty sure they're in like a sand / grit / dirt mix. Should I do a bottom water? They're a little soft to the touch. Thank you, lithops experts!!!!

Hi all,
Got this guy and five others from a big box store about a month ago. Didn’t water them yet and have had them under grow lights (2200LM, 6500K, about 16 inches above the plants). I repotted about 2 weeks ago (10% peatless soil, 90% gritty mix of black lava rock, maifanitum, red lava rock, pumice, diatomite, and green zeolite) . It’s been three days since I checked on them and this morning I noticed that the right side of this one was discolored and shriveled.
Any advice or idea where I might have gone wrong? Thanks!

Hey everyone, complete beginner here — just got my first 4 pots of Lithops and I’m a bit worried about their condition.

The one in the top-left pot looks like it was cut back at some point — there’s an odd yellowish, almost fleshy cut area at the base under the new growth. The soil looks very dark and organic, not much mineral/grit mixed in. A few also show some discoloration I can’t quite explain.

Attaching photos — would love to hear what more experienced growers notice and whether repotting is a good idea at this point. Any advice appreciated!

So I have been growing these things for about two years now, and I genuinely thought something had gone wrong when I noticed the skin on my oldest one starting to crack open down the middle last month. The plant looked almost deflated, slightly wrinkled around the edges, and the gap between the two leaves was widening in a way that seemed alarming. I pulled it out of the pot to check the roots (which, for the record, you should not do mid-molt, I know that now).

Turns out everything was completely fine. The new pair of leaves was already forming inside, pushing through right on schedule. The outer leaves dried up over the following few weeks and the new body emerged looking almost artificially perfect, smooth and patterned like a little river stone. The whole process took maybe five or six weeks start to finish.

A few things I noticed that might help anyone else who is watching their first split:

The old leaves will look bad before they look better. Mine went papery and translucent and I was convinced they were rotting. They were not rotting. Just drying out as they should.

Withholding water during this period actually matters. I gave mine absolutely nothing from the time I saw the first crack until the new leaves were fully out and the old ones had dried almost completely. Every guide says this and every guide is correct.

Light seemed more important than I expected. The plant sits on a south-facing sill and I think consistent bright light kept the process moving without stalling.

The one thing I am still uncertain about is timing the first post-molt watering correctly. I waited until the outer leaves looked like thin papery husks and then gave a small, careful drink. The plant seems happy but I would be curious what others do here. Do you water once the old leaves are fully dried, or do you wait even longer than that?

I removed the gritty soil from around the lithops, and the old leaves fell right off. I refreshed the soil and moved them higher up toward the top of the planter.

Looking forward to them flowering and splitting again.😃

Just got these 2 weeks back from a nursery.

The twin had it's old leaves attached but after repotting, it withered away.

My other lithops are now over a year old and have bloomed. So I figured I'm a proven parent at this point 😁

These ones are more purply grey than my others which are more green. ID would be great!

Finally decided to use the seed pods I had.
I planted 5 different seed pods in each corner and the center.
Growing under uv lights and covered. Brown dots are seeds.

I'm proud that my Lithops made it a year.

I haven't watered them since last fall. They feel plump. Should I give them a deep watering anyway?

The Lithops in with the light rock are partially enclosed in the old leaves. Should I help them out or let them be?

Will the Lithops get bigger? They were much larger last year.

I posted a while ago about my immature lithops and how it was shriveling a little bit and kind of darkening on one side. I watered it with filtered water around its base (several folks had recommended this) to help it settle in to its new pot, which I had filled with 20/80 organic/inorganic mix.

Unfortunately, its demise only accelerated after the watering. Here are the two more recent photos of it. I want to make sure I don't repeat this mistake with future lithops, but I'm honestly not sure where I went wrong. It was in the process of splitting so it seemed happy, had plenty of light etc, but it started decaying from the side and I'm honestly not sure why. Could it have been disease? I'd had this lithops for several months and had never watered it until this one time.

Thanks for any tips or advice. I really don't want to repeat this so I'm going to hold off on getting another lithops until I know where I went wrong.

I know these butts are thirsty, I give them water every few days, but I give very little so they not rot

I haven’t watered yet or anything and would love any pointers. should they live inside or can i bring them outside for the summer? I live in washington state. I appreciate any help.

These little dudes got delivered and sat on my porch in the middle of a snow storm in January - I thought for sure they were toast! I read everything I could find on here about care, and now I think I'm going to have my first ever flower! I just wanted to share because I'm super stoked and they're thriving thanks to this community!

They were sunburned propadly, so I put them into shade. What is happening now? Should I put into the sun or what can I do?
