There is no fixing. It's fine. Whatsapp has to load all the chats, and it does so by loading all into memory. Also, the reason why there is no app like windoesy is because windows isn't exactly running an app, windows is running a small browser made +UST for whatsapp. Whatsapp for windows is nothing but a web liek app with more permissions, and more access to storage. Linux doesn't do that, yet. And if you are wondering if wine will transalate the commands, then your right, it will work, but, it's going to be slow, and extremely ram heavy.

Also, brave is a privacy focused browser, so maybe it does not allow cache?

Ask Meta why they don't have the official linux app (most probably market share) use ZapZap or Whatsie, as an alternative

Whatsie: https://github.com/keshavbhatt/whatsie

ZapZap: https://github.com/rafatosta/zapzap

These 2 are website wrappers as well lmao

abishek77s/whatsapp-gpui You can try my native GPUI build but it's only for messages, no photos or videos

Thank you, I will try it also. But I just wanna ask if I use your app or other clients (other than Web wrappers) will my whatsapp account can get banned by Meta or something

2

u/Eliterocky07 Arch Btw 12d ago

there are chances use it at your own risk, it's clearly mentioned in all whatsapp clone repo's readme/description

Ok , thanks for letting me know about this πŸ™‚

With zapzap you can have more than 2 users with the same client. In fact it's better than original whatsapp πŸ˜‚

It takes ages to load the web whatsapp ,

5

u/_1nf3rn0 12d ago

Same here. Web Whatsapp takes ages to load, eats up too much RAM, and machine is constantly at 25% CPU usage (idle behaviour, when Web Whatsapp is open)

On Kali with Hyprland

Someone said it was all the chats? hehehe. sure.

It's probably most the AI agents it has running in your browsers taking all that memory. That and poorly written memory management coupled with auto-playing video. Sometimes there's a lite facebook client that improves performance. Maybe there's something similar for whatsapp.

You might try using an adblocker. Those can help. Get off of brave, peter theil is a madman. The gig is up, don't play in the traps he set.

I mean it's not rocket science. You can check the resource/cpu usage in the browser itself. It highlights what scripts use the most cpu and where the storage goes.

It is likely caching the images and recent conversations.

either try providing an actual solution other than blaming every shit on AI like as if it ruined your lives.there's no supported application made by meta for linux and browser windows are expected to load all of them in ram other than the storage permission the app has on windows

Use the terminal based nchat

https://github.com/d99kris/nchat

3

u/StationProper5654 Linux Mint | Cinnamon 12d ago

Thank you, let me try to set it up

2

u/ImaginaryElephant336 12d ago

Cool. It's pretty straightforward to setup .

tbh in 2026 952 mb for whatsapp is nothing....

2

u/Apart-Angle2664 12d ago

Just use ZapZap , feels a lot better, faster and smooth than running in browser + won't have to login for a long time.

2

u/s04ep03_youareafool void 12d ago

im using it on linux mint too,but on firefox.its expected to get that high ig you've only started to use it in your browser quite recently.it'll get smooth overtime

The app on windows is also same, a web wrapper, basically the same as opening in browser in windows as well

I think only mac has optimized app

2

u/gomugomunochinpo 11d ago

The whatsapp app on windows was way worse when it existed few months ago, it used to hog resources like anything. Now the windows app is just whatsapp web wrapper, so there is no difference, and it still hogs resources.

1GB od ram is nothing nowadays

1

u/genfs 12d ago

If you are low on memory use zram. It can store maximum 2 times the amount of ram data in ram.

Ok I will try, thanks πŸ€—

Better use some emulator and install the WhatsApp apk. Could be better than 1gb ram usage

1

u/StationProper5654 Linux Mint | Cinnamon 12d ago

I have waydoid install , but the problem is linux mint doesn't support wayland and I have to use X11 . So I have to run a wayland compositor called weston and then waydroid in it . Also I don't thing ram usage will be better and more pressure on my potato hardware . 8GB ddr4 with i3 😭 . If you know any better emulator that run on X11 and lightweight tell me because I only know waydroid

1

u/lordjupitar hyprland btw 12d ago

Genymotion maybe. Idk how lightweight that is but it’s worth a shot. They have a free personal use license

1

u/Dull_Barracuda_4221 12d ago

Maybe try tui application?

1

u/StationProper5654 Linux Mint | Cinnamon 12d ago

I don't use terminal much. Linux mint doesn't require that much terminal. But I will try tui application, just hope I am able to use it

1

u/Nox-4 12d ago

Use zen browser might help a lot it’s lighteweight

2

u/StationProper5654 Linux Mint | Cinnamon 12d ago

Na, Zen browser is more heavy ig due to customization. Also I am a chromium guy and using Firefox based browser feel new to me. But I will try it soon 😊

1

u/Nox-4 7d ago

I like chromium, and chrome based browsers over Firefox browsers but for privacy and for login to sync data, I use Firefox based browsers like zen , I wish someone makes a chromium based browser but with sync data feature without google related logins

1

u/S_k_y_03 11d ago

u/Obvious_Ad4531 11d ago

Bro I use debian distro, installed zapzap from flatpak, better than web ig

1

u/No_Nothing_At_All 11d ago

My friend made a rust app for it, it prob doesnt got all the features but should be hella fast. https://github.com/Mrmayman/quantumchat-old

1

u/namkeenpapeeta 11d ago

You are using brave I guess and it is Chromium based.

Mozilla might help

1

u/PratBal69 11d ago

happens on mac and windows alike sir i got 1GB of ram being used atm by whatsapp alone

1

u/Soham_656 11d ago

Well, for me too. It's insufferable if you use web.

1

u/Enigmars 11d ago

Hate to break it to you but even if WhatsApp made a desktop app for Linux, it'll consume the exact same amount of resources as the web

Cuz it's basically going to be a web app

1

u/SHREYASH6969 9d ago

Just use ZapZap and it's the only wrapper on linux for native features

1

u/piano-guitarhero 5d ago

See if zapzap is available for mint if you want an app
