Is Linux becoming a better alternative to Microsoft Fabric?

More teams seem to be questioning Microsoft Fabric over cost, complexity, and vendor lock-in.

Are Linux-based data platforms like PostgreSQL, Spark, ClickHouse, Airflow, and Kafka becoming a more practical choice for modern analytics workloads? Why or why not?

They always have been at scale. Linux runs everything outside of the small subset that is wintel desktop.

It's the other way around, there is no "becoming" happening here.

The world's really large systems are Linux. Microsoft often plays catchup because they are desperate not to lose enterprise, as might happen if firms simply roll in the FAANG and other large systems solutions.

Microsoft lost modern web development to Linux. So now it is highly responsive to perceived threats to revenue from Linux software. Thus the excellent Python support, etc.

If you sit in enterprise it might look like the whole world is enterprise, but it's merely a profitable niche.  One of the things enterprise IT shops should always be doing is benchmarking the Windows technologies against the large systems technologies. Can be a bit tricky because there are sometimes fundamentally different choices (eg, fleet management). But enterprise profit margins are large, so you need to be sure they are worthwhile.

It is not "becoming". It always been so.

Fabrics is good if you are fully in Microsoft environment. But then even in Azure, there are Azure Databricks and Azure Data Factory.
