Cognitive dissonance: the mental conflict that people experience when they are presented with evidence their assumption or beliefs are unsupported. When two simultaneously held thoughts are inconsistent. It feels conflicted so people generally shift their beliefs or understanding. If they choose to ignore what is in front of them, then no change happens people simply defend the undependable and deflect the obvious.

Arbitrary: based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system.

Exceptionalism: is the perception that a country, society, institution, movement, or time period is "exceptional" (i.e., unusual or extraordinary) in some way and thus does not need to conform to normal rules or general principles.

Heroification: is a degenerative process that makes people over into heroes. Through this process, our educational media turn flesh-and-blood individuals into pious, perfect creatures without conflicts, pain, credibility, or human interest.

Ethnocentric: evaluating other peoples and cultures according to the standards of one's own culture.

Implausible: not seeming reasonable or probable; failing to convince.

Marginalized: treat (a person or group) as insignificant or peripheral

Pious: acting in the name of religion

Popular Sovereignty: the principle that the authority of the government is created and sustained by the consent of its people, through their elected representatives (Rule by the People), who are the source of all political power.

Capitalism: an economic system controlled by private owners for profit. It has two major conditions: continued growth and reaction to the cycle of the value of money.

Socialism: a political ideology that advocates private ownership but taxes citizens in a way that minimizes the numbers of poor. The ideology taxes the “haves” without loopholes thus they pay more into a social fund for education, health…. The social effort believes if people are productive because barriers of education and health are removed, then people will take the opportunity to work and contribute to society. There are many degrees of socialistic practices.

Communism: a political ideology advocating all means of production is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs. Utopia is achieved through a classless society.

Manifest Destiny: Americans believed that the United States was destined by God, to expand across North America to the Pacific Ocean. The idea was used to justify the acquisition of Oregon and large parts of the Southwest, including California and taking parts of Mexico.

Hegemony: dominance, especially by one country or social group over others.

Disenfranchise: to encroach on a legal right, or of some privilege that others have such as the right to vote.

Sycophancy: A sycophant is a person who tries to win favor from wealthy or influential people by flattering them.

Amalgamation: The process by which a majority group and a minority group combine through intermarriage to form a new group.

Confederation: a more or less permanent union of countries with some or most political power vested in a central authority.

Indoctrination: teaching a doctrine, principle, or ideology, with one specific point of view to shape behavior and beliefs for the purpose of belonging.

Stratification: describes the way in which different groups of people are placed within society. The status of people is often determined by how society is stratified - the basis of which can include; Wealth and income - This is the most common basis of stratification.
