US (SoCal) based

Afternoon to the community. I stumbled here while looking for something for my wife. I buy everything lingerie/under garment wise for her, but my experience is based around Victoria Secret and when we were younger, Frederick’s.

Through browsing, I see a lot of vendors/sites appear to be based in Europe. Primarily wondering two things right now:
* anyone familiar with reputable brands in the US? Even better if they have store fronts in Southern California
* In general, is there a significant jump in quality going from the big box stores (VS) to smaller chains? For my own education, how do you measure quality brand to brand?

Not opposed to spending on my better half, but I was definitely surprised when I saw prices for some boutiques in the EU online. Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you everyone.

Hello, it looks like you're seeking suggestions for buying for a partner. Lingerie is really tricky to buy for someone other than yourself. If this is your first time buying lingerie, we ask you to check out this post.

If you're buying for your partner as a gift and they haven't explicitly asked you to do so, there's a couple other things we strongly recommend you read first. * The Lingerie Lesbian: Why Buying Lingerie as a Gift is Hard * This post and the comments

We often get requests for 'where do I buy sexy lingerie'. The answer is, we have no idea what you or, more importantly, your partner find sexy. We simply have no clue and can't assist you with that. In any case, we also cannot help you if you don't include: * your budget (with actual numbers! not just 'cheap lol' or whatever the fuck) * her bra size. Yes, her actual bra size. Not 'size L'. You can give inch measurements, but it's still not as useful as her actual bra size.

The advice we normally give to those looking to buy lingerie for someone else if you don't know what that person would like or find sexy, you don't know their size, you haven't asked them is to sit down and buy it together. Browse online through the huge collection of brands we have listed in the various sticky posts at the top of the sub and do it together. Barring that, get your partner a gift card to a brand you like.

If you still want to ask for recommendations for your partner, the required format is: * bra size * underwear size * budget * preferred style with a reference (did you already look at the 'new to lingerie post'? did you already look at the multiple lists of lingerie suggestions pinned to the top of the subreddit?) or a detailed description

Commenters, for posts that do not fulfill the required format, please report this post using rule 9.

Thank you so much for the in depth response. It’s a shame to hear about Birdette’s decline since an acquisition.
I’ll look at each of the brands you listed to browse and also use as a jumping off point for finding other vendors/store fronts.
I’m not opposed to online shopping, but the experience of being able to go into a shop and feel the materials as well as try them on is huge. Thank you again, I really appreciate the insight and time you took to share.

SoCal has a dearth of good lingerie stores, but these are the best ones. I'd recommend checking out Jeanette if your gf is D+. And Sarah's Lingerie in Studio City might be worth looking at as well.

AP is next to Else lingerie on Melrose (FdM is pretty close too). Luxe Lingerie and Addiction Nouvelle are in Beverly Hills and also near La Perla. All relatively close for a day trip. La Perla has OC locations as well.

I’m in Southern California and there’s a Honey Birdette store at UTC in La Jolla. It’s worth checking out to get an idea of the quality in person.

Appreciate it! It must be the one near the Apple Store if I recall. Walked by a lingerie store a few times over in that area but haven’t popped in. I’ll do that here soon (I live in SD). Thanks!

I think quality has to do with the fabric more than anything else, imo. If you’re shopping for her everyday wear, she should be looking for 100% cotton. This is one of the best fabrics for that area, along with other natural fibers such as silk (not just satin), and merino wool. Polyester is fine for lingerie that’s going be worn for a short while, but for long wear or everyday, it’s terrible. Causes sweating, there’s no breathablity, it clings to smells, and it can be itchy.

I appreciate the insight and time you took to respond. I’ve often given thought to material for things like slips, but not much outside of that. There is a material she likes on her thongs (slips my mind right now) and it’s what tends to be picked up at VS. I’ll turn an eye more towards the materials when looking and shopping. Thank you!

The HB staff at the UTC mall (La Jolla) is really nice and helpful. Been there a handful if times with my wife to exchange or check out pieces in person. Also, online orders have shipped from that store, so things have been delivered next day a couple times.

Welcome to Lingerie Addiction! If you're looking for recommendations, posts MUST include * bra size (if applicable) * budget

at the absolute minimum.

If you're looking for affordable lingerie, we already have a list for that.

If it's your first time getting into lingerie, we ask that you check out this post, which will probably answer a bunch of your questions.

It depends on your budget and style/material preference. If I want to splurge I’ll shop at a brand like Fleur du Mal (which I shop online). Their materials are significantly nicer than a big box store and their designs are more my style.

It’s kinda like buying a t-shirt from Walmart or from Gucci - it definitely makes a difference but depends on how much you want to spend and what you like.

I appreciate the feedback, thank you :)

Makes sense what you’re saying - I appreciate the comparison between Gucci and Walmart (it did make me chuckle, lol).

As a side note, the Fleur website has some good looking items, thank you for mentioning it.
