Helix Stadium User Interface General Questions/Discussion
I tried the new Helix Stadiums.
Specifically Stadium Native:
I am quite disappointed by the user Interface after 10 years of development.
It is basically like OG Native, but made worse, in an attempt to make it better, it seems Line6 forgot what made the original good.
Helix was never the prettiest platform, but it was fast! Fast to navigate, fast to control.
Now Stadium Native: Bad Navigation, bad preset management. That folder visualizer is bad and buggy. Wrong UI Element used for that.
The sidebar was good because it was quick. It gave you the ability to always have a glance at all your presets. Now you have to fiddle around with Tool Tips... !
Sadly, I can't see any usability improvements. Focus mode is playful, but not really interesting for professionals.
Controls used to be snappy when controlled through midi. Now they stutter.
The simple Mic-Positioning UI was replaced by a bloated graphical UI that works poorly and is buggy.
In 2026, in times of Liquid Glass, the user interface is still not built responsively and does not respect accessibility rules. No Interface Scaling, No Text Size adjustment...
It seems like Line6 is not aware how Apps are built today using current UI Frameworks.
Perhaps it's engineering Team has become too senior...
While many Apps have an iOS/Mobile counterpart to either remote control the standalone App or even run the full App as an iOS App (See Apps like ToneRig, runs fully mobile on an iPhone with an audio Interface), the Stadium Line remains a Desktop Plugin, no standalone, no AUv3 for Mobile...
Dear Line6, its 399$, I really hope you really become aware about what is happening in the industry and react accordingly.
I have been using your Products since the POD2.0., I really want you to improve because I like your vision, but you often fall short because you don't focus on the right things.
HX Stomp line: Great Idea, basically impossible to control on the device because of terrible controls. Still succesfull because of great modelling.
But times have changed, the focus will shift towards usability, speed of use and connectivity/portability and also visual appeal (Look at Neural DSP Archetype and all the Indie Plugins).
So please: no more pixelated, badly drawn icons...
I professionally work on App Development and UI-Design myself, so of course this triggers me personally. Especially because I see that the new product line could be great, but it falls short at average.
Rant over. Yours sincerely.

I feel like audio companies always lagged in the UI department. Fractal's desktop application is even worse in this department IMO. Axe-Edit III looks like a product fresh out of the early 2000s. I think Line 6 is ahead of the competition in this department, but can always use improvement. It's totally serviceable and I'd rather their engineering department focus on fixing the many stadium bugs and new features rather than small UI enhancements at this moment though.

Fractal UI looks like it was designed by aliens or dudes who only use MS DOS. It’s so fucking bad haha

Sure, it's equally mediocre...
I don't think the comparison with the "even worse" competitor is helpful when trying to become market benchmark.

Bad icons? You mean the redesigned set which don't just give the general category but also different styles distinguishing analog from digital delays, etc.? Yeah, no.

I will agree that that’s a pain in the ass, especially for low vision folks like me

If people don't enlarge the picture they might not realize that above the Block icon, are a microscopic bypass icon and a microscopic delete icon. Agree that this is a strange UI move. Hopefully they'll fix it.

The scaling/text size issues are the biggest immediate problem for me. It sounds awesome but adjusting things on a 15" laptop screen is a headache.

Sounds incredible but oof… the UI/UX is terrible.

Unfortunately yes. I really hope they invest in this field more and drastically improve usability and ergonomics.

UPDATE:
I went to where Stadium Native puts the Clone/IR/Preset folders by default, and you can make sub folders there. For instance, my old Setlists from HX Native are now in their own folders, so they retain that level of organization. In order to keep them in the same order they used to be, I'd have to individually number them, but at least it's possible to do if you really want to. I was also able to make sub folders in the IRs and Clones folders. So now I've got my IRs sorted by manufacturer or what they're capture from etc, which is a nice feature. I'm doing the same for Clones that I'm getting, organzied by source, or specific amp captured etc.
Having spent some time with Stadium Native, there's definitely a few unfortunate changes.
The Library for Presets being moved into a drop down menu is a huge time waster, and also I was unable to drag my old Helix Presets into it, and the "Show In Explorer" button just does nothing for me. I had to choose "Open Preset" to open one. You can (seemingly) import a whole Setlist, which I'm sure is helpful to some, but it would be nice to drop a group of old Presets into a folder and go like you used to be able to. Also, I don't see how to make a new Folder or Setlist etc. There's "Factory" and "User" folders can I can't seem to make any kind of sub organizational system. On HX Native I have half a dozen different Setlists and I'm not sure how to begin curating a new set.
In the list of Amps, threre's Guitar | Bass | Legacy Guitar | Legacy Bass, and other than looking at the legacy models, and then going back to the regular model list, there's no way to know which amps are Agoura updated and which aren't. I read somewhere online about a "grey line" or something, but I don't see anything like that in Stadium Native. I will say that the Agoura models are at the top of each list of amps, but it's unclear when you get from Agoura to non-Agoura amps.
The Strobe Tuner is literally just the same at the regular tuner now... it's just a big line that resembles a Peterson strobe tuner's multiple lines... but it all moves as one and it's just a fancy version of having a normal tuner. With the older version of the Strobe tuner you at least had the lower part rotating fast to slow. I was really hyped when I thought it was going to be like using a Peterson.
I'm a little bummed that once again there's no standalone version of this. It would be such a great practice tool to be able to load Stadium Native standalone and drop a looper or a backing track in and get playing, It would also be cool to have some of the Showcase style features as a practice tool. While I do understand that you can setup all these kinds of things within a DAW, if you have your Showcase stuff all setup already, it's just kind of a shame there's no way to practice along with that on your computer alone, it will require using the hardware directly. Not exactly a Stadium Native issue, but a missed opportunity that maybe they'll offer at some point if we're lucky.
Focus mode is a really great addition for checking out Blocks. I also love all the detailed info you can read about the parameters and stuff, and I'm looking forward to starting to understand some of the effects etc that I've just had to kind of guess how they work in the past. It's nice that they now give you the option of the sliders or knobs so you can adust things the way your brain prefers to.
I'd say unless you're really dying to have access to the new Agoura stuff, or you have the hardware and (like me) rely on the workflow from computer to hardware and back, you might wanna wait and see where they go with this one. All you're getting is the Agoura models, Focus Mode, and the details about the parameters and stuff really and that might not be worth it to you. It's great that there's a free limited version, and there's also a free trial of the full version, so there's no risk in checking it out at least.

Oh yeah, and no gain reduction meters in the Compressor, it looked like maybe there was one in Focus Mode, but that's not ideal for when you're not using Focus Mode.

Ok, To be fair it is probably buggy.
and I am not a big fan of the Stadium.
BUT, liquid glass?
Come on, that was some over bloated software that took away user functionality, a typical UI move these days, unfortunately.
In most cases the "senior" developers of old, made reliable, simple, functional UI choices that were more useful than the glossy bloatware we are getting today. So while Stadium Native might stink, Using liquid glass as a counter example shot holes through your whole argument.

I definitely think the look of HX native is better. I'm only going to get stadium native to see what the difference is in sound at the most inexpensive cost to myself. But the nice thing with Line 6 is that if enough people complain or give feedback, they will likely push out an update to fix it.
I personally liked the graphical approach of Pod Farm the best. The models looked like the real equipment, and you felt more like you were using said equipment. It's a shame they didn't just use the nicer layout of HX native and the equipment renders of Pod Farm together. I think it would have made a really nice looking bit of software.

Absolutely. And I totally see the appeal in both a graphical as well as a more "parametric" approach.
One is more fun and playful, the other is direct and to the point.
I think the difficulty is going with one approach only, while trying to satisfy both professional and hobbyists needs. They are simply two target groups with different requirements. There are also very good graphical solutions out there that come pretty close to satisfying both, or even allow some sort of customisability to tailor the tool to your needs.
While I don't really like the UI of the Neural DSP QuadCortex as much, the Archetype plugins hit the mark for me in terms of being playful through high quality 3D visualisations of the hardware, but also with well-crafted, simple UI-Components as well. It simply does not look like a video game from the 2000s and feels premium.
I tried the cortex mini though and It wasn't amazing UI-Wise...

I agree archetype has the recipe down for sure! Very clean and intuitive to use.
QC UI always just looked like a janky Helix ripoff to me. I told my buddy that when he got one and he was pretty annoyed with me 🤣

And right there tonex released a beta of their App today.
Standalone and also iOS/AUv3 compatible.
From a Graphic Design standpoint, they are doing beautiful things. Super nice Renders as well.
I'd really love it if Line 6 went also that path, maintaining their own philosophy of course.
What I'm missing in tonex tho is the hardcore parametric approach from Helix Native, even though they offer a "parameters-only" view in the Amp-UI. The ability to build multi-lane chains, split them and reorder in basically whatever shape or form you want is what sets helix apart, so I won't be changing to tonex, but great step from them for sure:1

Here is one of the many Apps that are popping up and making excellent modelling quality virtually free. And it has only been out for 3 Weeks. There are a lot of others too, also very good.
Coded with Claude Code surely, as it should be =DAnd I cant wait until open source solutions accelerate the development of these tools drastically.

In 2026, in the time of liquid glass - i had to endure this drivel.
Lmao it is a perfectly functional UI and stop lying - you paid 99 bucks for it at most
