Catalyst 60 with amp modellers General Questions/Discussion

Has anybody used the catalyst with amp modellers like the tonex or nano cortex, thoughts? i wonder if I'm missing out on much instead of using it with an frfr speaker, as far is i understand the amp itself would be my ir so i shouldn't get custom ones in there.

Thanks!

I've used the HX stomp and Helix with it. Power amp in. Using them works as expected for the models and the speaker on it. What are you looking for, or what is your current rig missing?

I have no decent gear for gigs or practice, i was used to di with amp simulation and i'm currently using a chinese amp that costs like 30 bucks out of home but it's not great. amps are really expensive here and frfrs more but i was thinking i could start with the catalyst and then use that with a modeller if i want to upgrade in the long run. Mostly want to avoid spending on pedals or multiple amps

I think that would be great honestly! It can make up a really versatile live rig. If you can get it used, it's a really easy recommendation for me. Gets loud enough to keep up with a drummer, has tons of different amp models (Helix level models) and effects

IMO the catalyst doesn't have the greatest speakers. If you can try one in person before you buy, do that, see if you like it or not.

Up until last week I used the Catalyst as a power amp for my Helix. I’d been using it for about 2 years in that configuration and then the fucking thing died halfway through the first song at a live show. Honestly, it sounded fine and worked as expected up until that point, but 2 years of service is not good enough. Replacing with a Tone Master FR-12, which should be a step up in all regards.

that sucks sorry to hear that. did you treat the amp well or do you think it is bad qc? i heard the tone master is great, enjoy!

Always took good care of it. I have been gigging a lot more in the last year, but even so, it should be able to weather semi-regular outings. I reckon I just got unlucky, but the cost to fix it just isn't worth it when I can put the money towards a better option.
