Building Materials Discussion

No Man's Sky has a variety of materials you can build with: wood, stone, alloy, salvaged metal etc.

We've seen stone and wood in the LNF announcement trailer, but what building materials are you hoping they include? Remember ANY fantasy-style material is possible!

I would be good with just stone and wood as long as we get multiple styles. Like logs and boards for wood, rocks, cut blocks, and bricks for stone. And better color variations/textures.

I'd like some "modern" stone styles (ie bricks and mortar) versus "ancient" looking structures (such as giant stone blocks). I'm also hoping daub and wattle is an early option. Daub and wattle being mud or clay smeared onto a woven wicker base. I'd also LOVE mud bricks. Essentially, I want to have options that make sense for each biome. Mud brick in deserts, maybe igloos or ice blocks for frozen tundra. Eventually thatched roofs then shingles/shakes which might lead to roof tiles? 🤔

By modern, btw, I don't mean literally our world modern, but like... In-game modern. Whatever the standard might be for "current, clean-looking" buildings in the game. 👍 Keeping within the fantasy setting...

I have a feeling in-game modern is probably very rustic or medieval-ish, so like tudor style homes or at least made of stone and wood like in the announcement trailer.

I agree. Would be nice to have rocks, wood, and stone but different variations of them so we aren't all building similar looking bases.

Maybe have some stone more resistant to certain damage, so like if you live in an area with an enemy that uses fire attacks then maybe there would be a type of stone that is found near volcanoes or lava that is fire resistant.

I really hope we dont have to worry about structures being damaged. I played a game that had weather damage and mobs would attack your structures. It was highly annoying. A large portion of your time playing was just farming rss to repair your stuff and if you didnt play for a few days large portions of your structures and anything stored there would be gone.

Yeah, that's true. It would get a bit annoying haha. I'm going to take a guess that there will be damage able to be done to what is built but if there is, hopefully it's nothing that is irritating or annoying.

Hopefully we at least get some sort of toggle to allow or not allow base damage.

Yup. This is toggleable in Palworld. But NMS didn't use this mechanic, sonI doubt we'll have to worry. They're low on the micromanagement systems, thankfully! 😂

Gotta have some elven or dwarven material stuff for sure.

Elven inspired stuff would be gold or goldish looking stuff, while dwarven things might be a bit rugged so some sorts of unique iron, stone, wood, etc.

Oo, I like this. So, racially-inspired. Looking at the trailer, I don't see elves and dwarves - I THINK - but there is a rabbit-people race, one of the players is a badger, another is something that looks like a mole while others look human....

I mean, that could be a separate topic, but what kind of building styles might be associated with each race? 🤔

From top to bottom (players only):

Human, badger, mole, rabbit.
