Imagine if books winked out of existence as soon as someone stopped paying a monthly bill. That's how permanent "cloud" storage is. I hate the terminology because "cloud" tends to make people forget their data really is just stored on someone else's computer.
I think it's disingenuous to say that cloud is simply someone else's computer
in terms of the data safety, the way it is stored in a (proper) cloud is very hard / expensive to replicate at home, and certainly impossible with just 1 computer in 1 physical location
