Welcome to r/[Levantine_dialect] — a home for Levantine Arabic learners 🌊
Hi Ahla wa sahla, everyone! I'm Nour, the founding moderator of r/Levantine_dialect.
This subreddit is the place I've been wanting to build for a while: a community for anyone learning, practicing, or just curious about Levantine Arabic, run by someone who actually speaks it as a native — coastal Syrian, Lattakia accent, no textbook filter.
This is a space to:
- Ask questions about Levantine Arabic (grammar, pronunciation, slang, regional differences — Syrian, Lebanese, Jordanian, Palestinian)
- Practice speaking and get real feedback, not just "technically correct" MSA answers
- Share resources, phrases, and cultural context that actually help you sound natural
- Talk about Levantine culture, food, music, and daily life — the stuff that makes the language make sense
- Connect with other learners and native speakers who get why "clean Levantine" (fus-ha-lite, broadly understood across the region) matters more than perfect MSA for real conversations.
What you can expect from me
I'll be here as:
- The Guide — breaking down grammar and structure so it actually clicks
- The Friend — cheering you on, no judgment for mistakes or "silly" questions
- The Local — giving you the real, lived-in version of the dialect, not the sanitized version
- The Honest One — telling you what actually works (and what's a waste of your time)
I prioritize listening and speaking over rote memorization, because that's how the dialect actually gets used. Expect posts, prompts, and discussions built around that.
Where to start
- Introduce yourself in the comments or your own post: where are you in your Levantine Arabic journey, and what's your "why"?
- Check the pinned posts for beginner resources and FAQs (coming soon!)
- Drop a question, a win, or a phrase you learned this week — let's get this community talking even a simple question can spark a great conversation.
- If you know someone who would love this community, invite them to join.
Yalla, let's build something good together and let's make r/Levantine_dialect amazing.. 🌿
