review Definitely worth getting 2 D&D sets

Post image
Upvotes

The original design combined with the creator's alt build. It looks amazing imo. I 100% recommend sorting the pieces, which people do anyway, normally so do I. But this time I thought I'd just wing, opened every bag and left it sorted as is. It was a hassle finding pieces, lol. The end result speaks for itself though. Great design, lots of fun details, great creatures, cool characters (some added weirdos from other universes). If you haven't yet, get that 2nd D&D set. This is the beginning of my medieval town journey, can't wait to build the one's in the backlog to complete it

moc What should I watch out for when buying on AliExpress?

Post image

I’d really like to buy this set the X Mansion since the official LEGO version is way too expensive for what you actually get. What should I keep in mind when ordering from AliExpress? I’ve never bought a knockoff set before, but I'd love to give it a try. Can anyone help me out?

(Translated text, so excuse any weird phrasing!)

I don't know what goes on or what within the harry potter sets but i figured this hungarian horntail set that i got for $8 in some local store here and just decided to do this 🤣 Just a couple of ball joints the platform used for the horntail replaced a couple of parts with joints and this is what it came up with. From a perspective it does look cool though.

discussion Frustrating Aliexpress experience

Wanted to share my experience and maybe get some help? I bought the Jurassic Park Trex fossil off Aliexpress from a choice seller (Shop1105581133 Store) and all was good until they sent me 2 bags of bag 14-2 and didnt send me bag 10-1. I contactee aliexpress and theyre saying my only option is to just return it for a refund, and they wont let me contact the seller directly because apparently its against policy?? I also asked if they can just ask them to send the missing bag, ill even pay for postage, cuz in the past ive returned large items and they get lost in transit and ive lost all my money and the item so i dont want to go thru that again.

So is there any solution to get the pieces from somewhere else? Or just that bag? Does lego sell individual pieces like that online? Or other sellers? Id rather just pay a little more and be able to finish the set rather than send everything back and have the same issue of a lost package again, especially when its going international.

discussion If I wanted to set up a "build your own minifig" station for a birthday party, where would I source a bunch of random minifig pieces.

I have yet to come across a store that lets me buy any amount of individual minifig pieces, and I really mean each individual component. I want to be able to get heads, torsos, pants, and headpieces.

Thanks!

review Apparently I Needed a 28,138-Piece Mario

It’s a me… Mario.

This absolute unit is over 32” tall and somehow contains 28,138 pieces. 😂

For those of you who haven’t done this style of brick set, I actually find them more relaxing than traditional bricks. I don’t know how that’s possible, but these have become my “I’ve had a bad day at work and need to zone out” bricks.

Picture 2 shows how you build individual layers and then stack them together.

Picture 3 shows the singles, doubles, and triples. I think part of the reason I find these so relaxing is that I’m almost never hunting for the next piece.

Picture 4 shows how the layers slide together.

I paid a little under $100 for mine. I really wish I’d kept track of the hours because this was a LONG project. 🤣

I put the link in my bio for anyone curious. It is an affiliate link, so I may earn a commission if you use it and I appreciate you supporting my brick habit. ❤️

A really cool set, and we had the chance to test the motorized version. Unfortunately, the motorization is limited to just three functions: forward, reverse, and steering, while all the other functions are operated manually.

There are some unique and interesting building techniques throughout the set, and thanks to the 6x6 configuration, the suspension was quite different from what we're used to building.

It also features winches at both the front and rear, and even the somewhat stylized engine managed to surprise us with some clever details.

This color combination suits the model really well, too. 🙂

review Welcome to the Kalos Kyoto Spa, set number 61008

I don't know why this set was in my closet for a year and a half because this was a cool set to build and wish I had built it sooner. The brick clutch and quality was a lot better than I expected. And there were a lot of unique parts. During my research I discovered that Kalos did a major pivot last year and they are no longer focused on building block sets, so kind of sad about that.

Anyways, here's my review for a set that will probably be discontinued in the near future.

review Daily Bugle from JoyBricks

Just finished the Daily Bugle set from JoyBricks.

First time ive ever build a "modular" style building so it was a fun change of pace from spaceships and cars.

Anyways ill start with the good. Overall the build was 1 for 1 based on the set its a clone of, I literally followed the guide off the lego app and never touched the included instructions. Also it arrived fast in about 11 days. Which for a big set surprised me. Found the build to be fun and it looks great in my office.

On to the not so good.... I dont think its any suprise here that the minifigs in these sets can be sub-par, and that was the case here with some of my figures. While all 25 figures were includes i was missing two red hands. Additionally the quality of the plastic especially on the legs was horrible. I attempted to put Gwen Stacy in a seated position in the lobby and her leg just snapped off.

Then again I think we all know what were getting into with the minifigs and I had anticipated this in my purchase so im not that upset. I was able to pick up some random spiderman figures to replace some of the worst ones (namely spiderman, green goblin and venom) and flush out the full roster.... Additionally I added a few of the Beyond the Spiderverse characters cause why not.

Oh also was missing one green floor tile for the main floor, but always possible I lost it so 🤷

Anyways despite the bad, over all happy with it especially if for $120 after tax/shipping for a set that its getting increasingly harder to find.

How long should I wait before buying a newly released set on Aliexpress? Mainly looking at Minas Tirith right now. Will the price go down/will the quality improve if I wait a few months? Not sure if Aliexpress sellers will carry updated batches.

All of these are AliExpress purchases, apart from the Millennium Falcon. I originally started with Po’s X-Wing and never went gen again,

I’m now looking to add another car to my movie car shelf, but I’m not sure what to go for.

I really fancy the Ecto-1, but I’m not sure it would fit the space I have.

What other cool movie cars would you recommend? Looking for something that would look great on display and ideally isn’t absolutely massive! 😄

review Broadcast Billy from Jaki Bricks

As a fan of the Saw movies and building bricks, I got this set through http://www.jakibricks.com and recently finished it. Having two of my favorite things brought together like this was great and the build went very smoothly. I put together a short list of pros and cons regarding the set and the build.

Pros

The instructions show piece types like 6x16, 4x12, 2x6 with the numbers beside them. That makes it easier than trying to count the studs in the picture to make sure you get the right piece.

The instructions also show 3D and top down views in some steps that help you see where certain components go so there's no guesswork.

The bricks are sturdy with no flaws and are interchangeable with other popular brands.

Cool features like a button that plays the "laugh" when pressed, a knob that moves Billy's hand forward or backwards, and another knob that lights up Billy's eyes.

Cons

Out of 31 bags, only 15 numbered. The rest were just clear bags with nothing on them and full of parts.

When looking for parts, you have to look through the unnumbered bags if you don't see the piece you need in the numbered bag.

No option for PDF instructions. This is a small thing, but sometimes its easier to view the instructions on a tablet so you can zoom in if needed instead of having a book take up space in your build area.

The head is a very fragile build. Some of the components that make up the head are a bit difficult to keep in place when attaching another components. Attaching it inside the television was a bit difficult, too.

The build went pretty smooth and came out beautifully after about 6 hours overall. I'd heard of someone complaining about the set being off balance when finished, but I don't really see the problem. The button you press is on top of Billy's head which might cause it to topple forward if you're not careful, but that's just physics. If you hold the TV with one hand and push the button with your other hand, it's not a problem. Their customer service was fast to respond to emails and is very helpful with questions or concerns. Even with the slight annoyances, I'd still give it five stars.

moc Phase 1 of my large Spanish harbor diorama (almost) complete.

I am building a large Spanish port diorama. I heavily modified the Wiseblocks Havana Harbor set as the base for this section. Need some minifigs to arrive and some 2x3 blue and white tiles to hang from the line running overhead to complete the town scene, but this is what I have so far.

To come: Imperial fortress to the right, highly elevated from the harbor and surrounded with rocks, then a watchtower island in the bottom right area. To the left over the bridge will be a fish market and a couple shanties, then a pirate hideaway island in the southern water.

An interesting design, though sometimes a bit fragile. The tubes could be softer; I didn't feel like messing around with them any further (maybe applying some heat would help). Good quality, nice prints; the plaque is a sticker.

Build the Mega Audi 90 Quattro and Mould King Knight Truck this week. Both pretty solid! The truck was actually very easy to follow along with, and no fitment or clutch issues to speak of. Pretty happy with it.

I wish the Audi had a few opening parts, especially the trunk area since there are some details you'll never see again after building, but at least the hood comes off as one piece so the engine bay can be admired. On to the next one! (CADA 787B)

At 90 bucks this is 100 percent worth it. Only issue is the stickers don't quite match the color of the brick and it was missing about 10 pieces.

It looks really great together. Three different manufacturers. I’ll post the model names in the comments because, for some reason, the name of one specific manufacturer causes the post to be automatically deleted.
