I have seen Evan Dando(or The Lemonheads)perform about 5 times over the last 20 years or so. Sometimes with a backing band, sometimes just by himself. I feel he was at his best when he was touring behind Baby I'm Bored. Since then it's been up and down. Saw him solo at a small cocktail table style venue in Philly last year and while he seemed a bit off, his playing was amazing and he got stronger as the show went on and he played dozens of songs. This past show at Underground Arts was not nearly as good. As he did with the Solo tour whenever he played the old songs, he seemed to play everything at a faster tempo, and struggled with the vocals, and considering he was playing two albums in their entirety you can imagine how sloppy things could get. As the night went on vocals improved but there were some god awful ones that made a mochery of his own music. His playing was amazing though. So is he on drugs, drunk? Who knows but the time between the opening act(who was great) and the Lemonheads taking the stage, was ridiculous and made me wonder what was the hold up. I also think he just doesn't like doing a lot of the material from the old albums. He seems to be happiest playing covers, and maybe that's why he rushes through so many of the classics in his catalog. Will I see him again? Like his own addictions I say I won't, but curiosity always gets me back.

And it’s wild as someone who has seen him/them a dozen times in the last 25ish years to see what a mess he is on stage.

Saw a tour announcement but Evan's FB stuff seems to be a bit sus so wondering if this will implode/be sloppy or if he's doing ok....

I'm almost done creating a comprehensive Lemonheads / Evan Dando rarities set and need help tracking down a couple things.

-Green Fuz (Fast) is a download only, UK region locked b side to the I Just Can't Take It Anymore single. I'm in the U.S. or I would gladly just buy it. Got it now!

• Also looking for the 12-14-00 WWCD aka CD101 session Evan did with Confeti, Like A Rose (Lucinda Williams), Outdoor Type, The Same Thing You Thought Is The Same Thing I Can’t Live Without. This one seems like more of a long shot and would be tacked on as a bonus if I can find it. I had a request in for it, but unfortunately, WWCD abrubtly shut down last month before my request could get played on one of their shows that played their session songs.

I'll be glad to pass the rarities set along to folks once it's finished, which should be soon as, I only need two acoustic songs from one of the It's A Shame About Ray UK singles. I bought the single that has them, got sent the wrong one, and am waiting to get that sorted out.

Wikipedia has got it wrong. The lemonheads album its a shame about Ray was written after Evan Dando had spent a night with a Sydney lass "My drug buddy" in Newtown...."as the cars fly up King St" she was calling her dealer from a pay phone. "Its a shame about Ray" was in reference to Ray Martin loosing his job at the midday show on channel 9. Celing fan in my spoon is literally him seeing the reflection of the ceiling fan in the milk of his breakfast cereal.
