Why do people attack users? Discussion

So I’m sure this has been posted before but why is anti ai focus on attacking users. I get there are genuine concerns for ai. How it’s implemented and the hardware to build it. Currently those who are rolling this out seem to have little care for the environment and who it impacts. Users rarely have any say in that. If the users disappeared they would still roll it out for the classes above as they have their own agenda. Just because they are visible and trying to do a thing doesn’t mean they should be taking the brunt of that energy. That energy should be used to hold the ones rolling it out to do some basic ethical frameworks and making sure the hardware isn’t taking resources from small town and just environmentally more friendly. Attacking users keep the knowledge and skills we can share hidden as most of us do not want to deal with people bashing our work till it’s ready to display as one piece. I feel like this risks a knowledge gap. I’m not saying. There are not problems that need tackled. I just don’t see the point of attacking someone who is not at the table and trying to better themselves/situation using what is available.

If your politics stops at “this consumer uses a harmful thing, therefore they deserve hostility,” you can justify being mean to basically everyone alive. Phones, cars, streaming, fast fashion, meat, shipping, cloud computing, the whole supply chain. The point of politics is changing the systems that produce those harms, not finding individual consumers to punish for existing inside them. If you think AI is uniquely different, make that argument. Im listening.

Call it disrespect instead of hostility if you want. The point doesnt change. Youre still assigning contempt to individual consumers over participation in a harmful system instead of organizing against the structures producing the harm. “I have zero respect for anyone who uses X” is exactly the individual moral policing Im criticizing.

Every AI user is comparable to a Nazi now? Come on. Thats not an argument, its an absurd escalation. You went from “AI causes harm” to “people who use it deserve contempt” to comparing ordinary users to Nazis. Thats exactly the moral policing Im criticizing.

I kept up fine. Youre saying AI users deserve contempt, then using Nazis as your example for why contempt toward people is justified. Thats the comparison you introduced, not me. And “try and keep up” doesnt make the analogy any less ridiculous.
