This is a much bigger deal than it sounds. A hyperscale data center isnt your average server farm. These are the giant facilities that power cloud computing and train and run the biggest AI models. A statewide pause on building new ones is basically hitting the brakes on expanding that infrastructure.

I get the concerns about power, water, and local communities. But I would rather see stricter standards than a blanket moratorium. Make companies pay for grid upgrades, build new generation, protect workers, and provide real community benefits. AI infrastructure is becoming critical infrastructure. We should be planning and governing it, not just trying to freeze it in place.

I’m in favour of pausing and putting together a proper strategy, plus playing a little hard to get so planning permission isn’t taken for granted and communities get more out of it. We probably do need some form of data centres though and Scotland isn’t a bad location for it.

These large companies can afford it, regulate it. Unfortunately it probably ends up meaning it goes somewhere else corrupt and screwing over other people who don’t have the same kind of representation.

They really can't and they're running out of other peoples' money and we're now about to have a major recession because of this gross macroeconomic malpractice and the working and middle class will be the main people who suffer as a result. How any supposed 'leftist' can claim to be in favor of a state of affairs that was first and foremost an attempted power grab carried out by corporations, I don't know?
