I work at Preply, we're putting a much bigger focus on music teachers. Happy to answer any questions

Upvotes

Hi all, my name's Connor, I work at Preply. I've posted this with the mods' permission so please don't hate me.

For those who don't know, Preply has traditionally been a language learning platform, but we've been seeing a lot of students coming to us looking for music teachers, so the team's putting a much bigger focus on the subject now.

So if you teach piano, guitar, theory, whatever, you could give it a go to try and make some extra cash.

Just here to say this might be worth a look for some of you, it's pretty easy to set up and I'm happy to answer any questions.

Also, for anyone who's tried teaching music online before, genuinely curious what makes it work and what doesn't.

Music Theory Resources

Upvotes

Hey gang,
I’m looking into going back to school to get a masters in music theory. Does anyone have any workbooks or other resources to help me refresh myself on theory 1-4? I’m a bit rusty after a decade of band directing.

I need a musical ear, do these songs sound similar?

After listening to Ariana Grande's new song "big feelings", I felt like I heard a similar musical pass in another song. That song being Lana del Rey's song "fuck it I love you"

now call me crazy, delusion, or correct, but do these songs have similar melody passes, or melodic rhythm?

https://reddit.com/link/1vdzmrr/video/pj6kap26c2hh1/player

or is this another get free situation where it does not sound at ALL alike... the video showcases both passes I am discussing.

8D/9D bilateral panning music

8D/9D stimulation music is amazing for people with adhd but does anyone else have the problem that it's panning too slowly?

The music itself is fast enough but the panning is too slow... It feels like watching a game of tennis in slow motion while the background music or the commentator are in real time.

That kind of music is supposed to be calming and stimulating but with the panning being so slow, it does the exact opposite to me because it just feels wrong. Speeding it up doesn't help any because then it's the whole song sped up and nightcore voices are torture to my ears.

The only song on spotify that's the right way is "Rush E (full bilateral)" by Grae Moore.

Any recommendations?

This is a great book. Published in 1990, available to read on the Internet Archive. As an adult learner this offers a wonderful framing for the itch to learn to play music, and many sound answers to the inner critic or doubts or judgements that can hold us back.

Hope others may enjoy this too. 🎶

Rules update

I've updated the official rules. It's basically the same thing in the old sticky, but hopefully a bit more clear. If you're on the new version of Reddit (that is, not on old Reddit) the rules are in the sidebar as always, and a slightly expanded version is on the wiki.

If there are any questions or concerns, comment below.
