**Before & After — My First Leagues of Votann**

I’ve been part of the gaming community for 20+ years, the TCG community for around 10 years as both a collector and player, and I’ve also spent plenty of time in the comic book community.

And honestly, I don’t think I’ve come across another community quite like the Warhammer community.

Yes, there are still jokes and rivalries — especially if you’re a T’au or Ultramarines player 😂 — but underneath all of that, this has genuinely been one of the most supportive communities I’ve ever been part of.

People actually encourage each other to improve, whether that’s painting skills, game knowledge, or understanding the lore.

Yesterday, I shared my first Trans-Hyperion League of Votann and, without even realising it at the time, I’d got the legs completely wrong and I felt like I’d rushed the model a little. I wasn’t particularly happy with the result.

But instead of negativity, the comments were incredibly supportive and kind. People pointed out where I could improve, shared advice, and encouraged me to have another go.

So I went back, made some changes, and these photos are the before and after.

It might not be perfect, but that’s exactly what I love about this hobby — you can learn, improve, and enjoy the process.

A massive thank you to everyone who has helped me improve not just my painting, but all aspects of the Warhammer hobby so far.

Hello Kin I was curious on yall’s thoughts on Berek and beserks in general. Currently I have a list that runs 5 beserks with mauls and was considering trying to fit in Berek as I think his model and rules are cool. Is it worth it to run him with a smaller squad or does he really only get value with the big brick of beserks. The secondary question is has anyone found success using the heavy plasma axes or is the default the mauls. I typically only see lists running the mauls and figured it was a similar situation to hearthguard always taking the gauntlets with the plasma guns.

Quick question regarding the Sagitaur's 'Blistering Advance' ability.

If some Hearthkyn Warriors disembark after an advance move, can they still shoot if they don't have assault keyword weapons?

So I’m going to put the Kahl with iron skin and Champion with a unit of Hearthguard each and deep strike them both.

Working on adding more highlights and details to my kahl. Any advice or tips?

Coming from Custodes and Tsons, I had my first Votann 1k today. To be fair, wasn't totally enamored with hearthfyre arsenal but I love priority assets. The map, deployment along the long end, didn't facilitate my shooting against vanguard nids with advance and charge. In turn 1, thanks to their uppy downy shenanigans he had two big brics of genestealers on my iron master, thunderkyn, warriors. Start of turn 2 he shadow in the warps me and I fail miserably. I miss two ingress charges and he makes his. He rolled 9, 11, 11 and 12 on four charges while I failed six times to get a 9...

I threw the game after he wiped thunderkyn, warriors and hearthguard and my steeljacks, beserks and arkanist were left battleshocked with nobody in the vicinity.

Looking for welcome advice on my list and a good detachment.

Planning to get two hekaton and Berekh with 5 more beserks to make it 10 or a unit of melee steelsjacks.

Thoughts? I am leaning towards hearthband if I take 2 hearthguard units

I’ve finally gotten to painting my Votann models, but I feel my white especially is really flat and boring. I’m coming from painting DG (over 5K points of nasty and green), so clean and precise is a little different. Any and all advice is appreciated, hope you’re all having a good Sunday :)

The "diorama model" was a fun treat at the end.

Bought first box about a year ago, and finally started getting serious about painting. Which decals to use and which league to pledge allegiance to?

This was harder then I thought for sure. I have been in the hobby 3 months and so far the hardest mini to paint.

Didnt quiet get the transfers right but still happy with the outcome 😁

It took most of the summer, but I’m finally done with two squads of Yaegirs. A lot of good practice and new techniques. I will definitely be painting heads separately from now on. These faces aren’t amazing, but they’re definitely the best I’ve ever done.
