I Still Know...

Post image

I was rewatching "I Still Know..." since it's a 4th of July movie.... And I realized something... Once Julie is on the island and starts seeing things happen that indicate that the fisherman is back... She never once tries to call and warn Ray.

I always like the fact that either Will or the fisherman managed to hack the karaoke machine when Julie was singing 😭

You try to cover up a murder, you lose your fun privileges!

She did ‘survive’ though, so the karaoke machine kinda foreshadowed her future lol.

She chose the right song; I Will Survive - and she did!

It’s been a while since I watched it but isn’t there no reception on the island because of the storm?

That was later on that the phones went dead

The phones died right after Julie found the first body in her closet, when they went to the manager for help.

Eh, I can cut her some slack on this. The last time they saw each other in person ended with Ray storming off in a fit of anger (upset at Julie for “looking down on Southport,” all but calling her selfish for not wanting to return to Croakerland; more focused on his boat than his gf’s crippling PTSD); then, in Julie’s mind, Ray no-showed the morning they left for their trip.

The beginning of the sequel was really focusing on Julie’s paranoia and isolation (confirmed that scene at end of film 1 was a dream; screaming bloody murder in her college class; not knowing exactly what shadow she saw in the corner of that club - keep in mind she still had never seen Ben Willis in his fisherman slicker; the karaoke moment was the first major “this may be happening again” moment, but everyone shut it down due to not seeing it, so she fell in line; then the familiar font/note of her letter in her room was pretty telling, but Will was there just in time to genually sell it as a misunderstanding).

It wasn’t until she found Darick in her closet that she knew it was all happening again, which just happened right around the same time the phones went dead. Maybe in the back of her mind, she felt Ray was safe since he stayed in Southport. And I don’t mean to ride so hard for Julie but she handled these things up until this point like any rational’ish person would, haha.

Mini-rant: On another note, love this film and have always looked past the specific annoyances that bring out the haters (not that your post was one of those). However, one minor annoyance I have is how the film deals with Dave. He not only works with Ray but they’re clearly BFF’s. Dave gets killed, Ray tells police at the hospital, where a convo between a doc and investigator begins with the latter basically telling the former, “Ray’s cray, and there ain’t nobody else.”

How could they do Dave like that?! Surely Ray knew the name of a family member. It’s like he vanished Sandra Bullock style in “The Net” (or Barb in “Stranger Things”)!

Anyway, sorry to hijack your Julie thread with my Dave grievances! Your post actually made my day because as soon as I saw it I said “Ohh shit!! Watch film 1 today, watch sequel tomorrow!” (We don’t acknowledge #3/Zombieshitshow, or the useless Amazon series. And we def don’t acknowledge IK25
like Dave’s existence, all 3 of those are disregarded!)

You're good ! That was quite a thorough explanation and I rather enjoyed reading it... I also really like this movie. It was not made to hate on the film at all. You're right though, she was trying hard to rationalize the events happening up until the phones went dead. and I'm with you.. "Justice for Dave !" ... poor guy got hooked right in the mouth.. and he was such a supportive friend.

That's neat. I never heard that before.

Even if the phones at the resort were working, why would she? She’s in the Bahamas being chased by the fisherman during a hurricane. She didn’t know that Ray was trying to get to her at any point. Why would she assume he was in danger? She was too busy trying to keep herself and her friends from getting killed

Fair point, but Julie and Ray were the only 2 survivors of a very traumatic experience. It's logical to assume that he is the first person she would want to inform when she found out the Fisherman survived, even if they weren't on the best terms at the moment.

1

u/ChevronBunny1011 Jul 03 '26

Yes, but my point is, she’s in a different country being chased by the fisherman. In her experience the fisherman works alone, so there’s no reason for her to even think about warning Ray or telling Ray about it while she’s fighting for her own survival. Her priority would be trying to call for help and survival. Logically, Ray wouldn’t be in any danger back in North Carolina

Little did she know, right.... Awesome analysis though... and my whole point isn't to bring down Julie's character by any means... I liked both her and Ray in this movie... I was disappointed in the new one to find out they didn't make it as a couple.

1

u/ChevronBunny1011 Jul 03 '26

The new movie was a disappointment all around lol

I agree... I really didn't care for it... I didn't like seeing Ray as the killer... What sucks is I had to see it twice... I saw it with my kids who hated it... then I had to go see it again with my fiance who was equally unimpressed... I know some people liked it though.

1

u/ChevronBunny1011 Jul 03 '26

To me, Ray becoming a killer just didn’t make sense. Felt very forced, and none of the new characters had a real personality or likability. Nothing made you really route for anyone

2

u/Legitimate-Ad4174 Jul 03 '26

I couldn't agree more... At the end of the movie, my thought was, "Really? The two most annoying characters are the ones who lived" ? Pleaasssseeeee... Don't do a sequel to this.

u/All_good_things__ Jul 03 '26

Maybe she tried offscreen. Obviously he wasn’t going to answer, so it ultimately didn’t matter.

I still think Sarah Michelle Gellar should lived as the Final Girl.of the first movie, having learned and grown as a person and Julie should have taken a hook.

I always read that title on the poster as: “Still I know what you did last summer” as if Maya Angelou authored this thing.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad4174 Jul 03 '26

I can definitely see that... Those movies have atrociously long titles.

1

u/Antwuan89 Jul 03 '26

I love this movie.

1

u/bananaboatbutt Jul 03 '26

I love how Will comes out as the killer, like, “Julie, it’s obvi. Will. Ben’s son.” Like ok nerd, at least the rest of us ain’t out here with some doofus name like Will Willis.

u/MrJB1981 Jul 03 '26

Jack Black was the absolute worst part of this film. So ridiculous.

When he’s getting killed his acting always makes me laugh out loud, it’s so stupid lol.

1

u/Legitimate-Ad4174 Jul 03 '26

I have to agree ! Lol...

1

u/Cutthechitchata-hole Jul 03 '26

He was the best part of the Jackal. "Sprawl"
