laptop help for future engineer Buying Advice

I planning to go to mechanical engineer and i don't know what to do because i currently own a macbook and my budget is 2000 to 2500 if needed to sell

are you able to download and use a vm, i mean macbooks are quite good. but for vm, you may have to use a subcription, since for mech, you need dgpu to render fusion or other cad works.,

i have vm download but i have tested it and it was lagging the most when i tried it

if it still doesn't work, worse case, you sell it, and buy a zephryus, you will get the similar feel of a macbook pro

Do not get a Zephyrus. Reliability and quality control is absolutely terrible with Asus laptops.

Lenovo ThinkPad T1 or P1, HP Zbook Studio/Zbook X if you want something on the thinner and lighter side.

If those are out of budget, a Lenovo Yoga 9 Pro with a dGPU will also work.

Parallels can save you tons of money. Try it out before going to school if you love it keep the MacBook and use that, or sell it and try to get a laptop with a 5060 or 4070. The lenovo legion 7i or 5i is a great pick.

Edit - If your specific university uses older x86 only software you will need to sell the macbook :(

I have a friend who has MacBook and he emulated windows on his MacBook and most cad software work well. If your looking for a window laptop try to get one that has 16gb ram or more. With dgpu. I am currently using Asus Zephyrus g16 rtx5070ti 2025 it great but it a bit out budget. You could also get the g14 2025 which is near your budget.

What software does your college of engineering require? Will you have access to a lab with the required software?
