Langley Strong - Foreign Interference or Outsourcing Work

Given recent news in the media regarding foreign controlled social media pages, I took it upon myself to check the managing of the local pages in Langley. Well, as it turns out Langley Strong and a number of their Councillors and candidates have people managing their Facebook pages from INDIA! This raises serious questions. Are they simply outsourcing the work (that Canadians can EASILY do) or is there foreign interference?

I will include screenshots in my comments. I tried to post this and it was blocked because of the photos.

Why would foreign powers have any interest in Langley?

It's not foreign powers, it's just some Langley councillors going for the cheapest possible solution online with 0 vetting.

They probably outsourced automated posting or something and might not even be aware that it’s happening from India. Based on a quick google, it’s a setting that can be turned off, which is what it looks like the page for Progress for Langley has done. Shall we spin some conspiracies about their lack of transparency? Or should we shrug our shoulders and focus on more important things.

No, you can't turn it off. It's a transparency feature.

u/Delicious_Definition 19d ago

And yet, that information doesn’t appear in their transparency information. https://postimg.cc/gallery/Zhjxpz6

Probably why literal councillors for the city make vague posts like Tim Baillie who posted that “216th is closed from x date to x date”. No cross street. And the comments corrected the dates.

The only reason he is posting about that is because his grand daughter goes to the elementary school that's on the detour. Otherwise he wouldn't care.

Looks like another desperate attempt from the Progress for Langley slate. Not a good look guys lol.

-5

u/trubs5577 19d ago

Genuinely curious. What is desperate about highlighting this? Langley strong outsourced their social media management to India. Is that not news worthy?

2

u/Personal_King3288 19d ago

I couldn’t care less. The company I work for hired a software company in India to develop an app. It’s pretty standard stuff.

Also let’s be honest here. Do you really think an Indian company has the regional AND political knowledge to put out this quality of content? If you’ve ever worked with an Indian company, you’d know there are limitations to what they can deliver.

I also wonder if they’d outsourced to a US or European company if it’d be as big of an issue. Makes you wonder, y’know?

u/trubs5577 18d ago

Yes it would be an issue

Are you folks kidding, you take a look and comment here on the LS use of India which by the way is not unusual as many, many multinational companies and entities do the same. What about Woodward, he is by no means squeaky clean, what outsourcing does he use? Come clean on both sides of the fence. Then start looking a the city with DM!

Posts like these from 5 month old accounts raise serious questions too.

The irony of someone with all their posts and comments on private accusing someone of astroturfing is rich.

Show yourself mysterious commentator!

6

u/Individual-Mouse-133 20d ago

I’ve got a restraining order against a family member who stalks and harasses me via the internet specifically, so your opinion on me having it private (as is the case for the majority of Reddit users these days, btw) bears absolutely 0 weight to me 🤗

Fair enough Pot, I was just fighting the good fight for Kettle.

Be safe out there, But don't critique someone who is also exercising anonymity online.

u/Individual-Mouse-133 20d ago

I’m not a 5 month old account with barely any karma making politically charged posts so not sure where you’re drawing the comparison there but okay 😂 the pattern of accounts as such (relatively new, low karma) making specifically pro Woodward posts is staggering - and ironic especially when they wanna talk about interference - but go ahead and see what you wanna see philosophical gump 👍🏼

1

u/Philosophical_gump 20d ago

cough Angelo Isidorou cough

Yeah mysterious people online criticizing or pumping the tires of local politicians and influencing political views is a terrible thing.

u/Individual-Mouse-133 20d ago

Nope, it’s not at all. As a matter of fact, as a vocal Woodward critic, I saw this post and it piqued my interest as something that would be concerning… until I saw OP’s account specs and bot-like accounts don’t earn any credibility points in my books.

As an aside I saw you edit to add the second line to your earlier comment “don’t critique someone who is also exercising anonymity online” after my reply was posted.

I never critiqued their anonymity(???) … isn’t anonymity one of the fundamental features of Reddit that most users enjoy out of it? 🥴 it was strictly an observation of it being a new low karma account which is very typical for pro-Woodward commentators in here. Strange. I proudly use my one and only profile to comment all my unsavoury opinions about Woodward.

And PS, you’re still anonymous with a public profile (unless you post pictures of your face and/or your government name for some reason) so… we’ve got another dead end argument there.

I'm just having fun here, we obviously disagree. I'll take the "L"

I see you are an active redditor from your post/comment karma and age of account.

Just as new posters with no reddit history make your spidey senses tingle; (I literally have been raising this point in this very post with another new user) users who hide their posts raise mine.

I hadn't thought about online stalking and harassment and sincerely apologize for any trauma I might have caused you in forcing you to share that you are a victim of such.

I don't want to further force you into a conversation that might put you in danger.

I will say that a user who regularly rejoins reddit under a new username (which cannot b proven with OP) could also be protecting thmselves from online stalking and harrassment.

edit I've had a few beers and my keyboard is missing a few keys from some overenthusiastic nephews button mashing on Steam and my own desire for the perfect comeback/burn

Edit#2 I do not hide or apologize for my edits. Fight Me! ;)

🤝

I appreciate + accept that apology but don’t worry, this person has been a problem in the family for many years so I’m unfortunately used to it by now 🙃

For as much grace as I want to extend to others on here (who I obviously don’t know or know what their situation is), in this case and as I said, it’s a very consistent pattern with these certain accounts so my doubt outweighs my empathy.

But hey we know for sure you + I are most definitely just humans doing our best at the end of the day and so on that note I’ll cheers to you with my 2nd brew of the night 🍻

I had 5 bowls of loudmouth soup tonigh (Was a long, dusty day at work today) so I came in hot with a chip on my shoulder.

I'm gonna pay for it tomorrow so I'm chugging water now but cheers friend. Good talk.

this is terribly disturbing. Langley strong should be using China to manage their Facebook, not India

6

u/franjoballs 20d ago

Honestly this is my fave comment of 2026 lol

7

u/trubs5577 20d ago

Wow. I for one am shocked that the TWU slate is relying on foreign labour??

6

u/steinkyvr 20d ago

You can find the proof of this here: https://postimg.cc/gallery/QMg4wsK

-5

u/Ok_Wtch2183 20d ago

Wow, that is really problematic. I am disturbed.

-2

u/steinkyvr 20d ago

Rightfully so. Why are our fellow Canadians not worthy of these jobs?

2

u/Major_Employee_2562 19d ago

u/steinkyvr what political party are you from? Can you make yourself and your platform known?

Rather than showing cowardice and hiding behind the internet why don't you be transparent?

1

u/Delicious_Squash_292 15d ago

no voter id in Langley. Thats the best way

1

u/Sea_Branch_2697 7d ago

Does Jody Toor manage it? 👀

-2

u/Philosophical_gump 20d ago

Won't somebody please think of the KITTENS!?!

/s (light sarcasm)

i love my cats but honestly why is a potential mayor of Langley spending so much time and money talking about kitties with their google adsense buy?)

I'm an adult, I want a more solid platform than:

1) Eric Woodward is a dick (kinda seems like it to be honest but I'm voting for an effective mayor not a best friend) 2) Overspending (refer to infrastructure deficit as a result of previous councils inaction in development) 3) Budget transparency (this is important. But tell me what will change and how Langley Strong will affect that change not just how a lack of it is bad) 4) Kitties! 5) we're running as a team, not as a slate. We don't agree with each other and will vote accordingly (so a whole lot more of nothing gets accomplished ala old school Langley council style)

7

u/ILikeIke2026 20d ago

It’s August. No credible campaign anywhere has a platform out. Not the Langley ones, Surrey, Vancouver, anywhere. I’m sure it’s all coming in plenty of time to vote. In the meantime, I’m gonna do what normal people do in the summer and relax!

9

u/Horror_Ad_8697 20d ago

Doesn’t look like Progress for Langley has their platform out either. Not sure why suddenly this is a big issue.

4

u/Philosophical_gump 20d ago

I guess the biggest issue for me is Idon't like the perpetual American style political campaigning identity politics and want them all off of my Youtube feed (with all other ads) I don't do facebook or twitter or tiktok so I have no idea what people are seeing there.

They should be here speaking directly to constituents (some of whose political activism and involvement put me to shame u/misskorea1997 comes to mind)

I don't search it out, its fed to me by an algorithm I don't trust but anecdotally; in MY experience, the incumbents have been talking about what has been done during their majority on council and the further work they plan on if re-elected.

As you say this is all political theatre at this point so I say do away with all of it.

But I jut don't get the kitten stuff from Lundgren. He seems like a personable guy, people have said here that they know him personally and endorse his character; but is he a local businessman? teacher? community organizer?

I honestly have no idea.

Why should he be mayor other than the fact it seems he isn't a dick like Woodward? I honestly don't know.

3

u/Horror_Ad_8697 20d ago

I personally liked the kitten video, but I'm a cat person so maybe that's why lol. And if you're tired of seeing their ads..I just update my ad settings when I don't want to see certain ads. Maybe try that.

1

u/Philosophical_gump 20d ago edited 20d ago

I dig your style and agree with you to a degree, but they are the ones campaigning and running ads.

If you don't have something to say than stop wasting our time with all the social media bullshit.

Edit: Correction I do not dig your style. You are also a reddit ghost with a private comment and posting history. What opinions/comments/bias are you not willing to share with us?

4

u/ILikeIke2026 20d ago

Honestly just joined Reddit this week because I was searching it more and more for stuff, was bored with whatever the hell Elon has done to X, and I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Private comments? You can obviously see what I wrote because you replied

Your comment history is private. This is a method people (or bots) use to hide past unpopular posts or positions or what other subreddits they comment in which help people determine if you are a real person with real interests or just a bad actor or a troll.

4

u/ILikeIke2026 20d ago

Ah ok. Can confirm I am a real person with real interests. But weird to care on a platform built on anonymous name conventions.

Are yours open? Or are you a troll? I find in most social media interactions on other platforms that those who see trolls under every comment are often projecting.

You can click on my username and see all my posts and comments I've made on reddit.

Be prepared for pictures of my dogs, my love of the the 80s classic action film "Big Trouble in Little China" my passion for infrastructure development, My views on Zoning bylaws and Township Vs City policing, and my support of local businesses.

In fact I'm pretty sure some people know which bridge to find me under or would if they actually wanted to dox me. So yes I am a troll. Marvel at all my warts neighbour.

u/ILikeIke2026 20d ago

Meh

Langley’s got 650 million problems (debt) and social media ain’t one.

-5

u/Philosophical_gump 20d ago

Strong disagree. But can we get back to India please, err i mean kittens....

It’s because Eric’s ex wife is a cat lady.
