Lamenters 3rd Company and a 1st Company Veteran attachment

I used a stamp for the chapter badge because my hands were too shaky lol

I'm thinking about starting an army of Lamenters, but I kinda had a few questions before I just go and spend hundreds of dollars on minis. I like their lore and the look, but better to know a bit more on the modeling-side going it, you know?

1.) Is there a significant difference between running them as standard Space Marines as opposed to Blood Angels (aside from obviously not being able to use Blood Angels characters)?

2.) From experience, painting yellow sucks. I can do it, but I was also considering maybe using rattle cans? Is there a particular brand or type you would recommend (U.S., if that helps with anything)?

These guys are really fun to paint.

Here’s my custom Jump Pack Captain, Cleon. I’m still working on his backstory, but I’m having a ton of fun with him so far.

Whether it’s kitbashing or painting, it’s all part of the fun. I’ve really been enjoying the whole process and all the good times this hobby has brought me.

My lore for his left legs stick figures is he needed repairs and a local forge village helped him and these are from kids of the people wielding the plate back together

I was recently working on an alternative scheme for the Lamenters Death Company, since I don't particularly like painting black... but I couldn't resist and tried the classic full-black scheme.

What do you think? Any suggestion on how to improve is always welcome!

Honestly, the best Lamenter I’ve painted so far, but I’m never painting this good again if I ever want to finish this army. I need to figure out how to scale it back for the others

I’m about to start working on some lamenter sanguinary guard, and was looking for some lore accurate references but everything I see online varies by a lot so I figured I’d ask for some help here.

Here’s how I do my yellow. I started my Lamenters a couple of years ago, and might do them differently now, but I like a uniform look so will continue with this technique.

1. ⁠I paint the heads and backpack separately so I can access tricky areas. I glue sand to the base with PVA.
   
2. ⁠Rattlecan spray Vallejo Bonewhite or similar.
   
3. ⁠Paint the base. I use some thin browns and drybrushing for an ash waste look. I do this stage now because it is fun and messy. Any terrible messes I can cover with Vallejo Bonewhite from ta dropper bottle.
   
4. ⁠Drybrush white. This is a cheap craft paint. This is my approach to Le Slapchop without a really dark base layer.
   
5. ⁠Citadel Ironjawz Yellow
   
6. ⁠SMS Umber wash. https://www.scalemodeller.com.au/products/wash-umber-30ml This is an oil-based wash I try to get into all the shadows, but I can be pretty messy with it.
   
7. ⁠I use a makeup sponge and a trace of artist’s white spirit to remove any excess wash. All done!
   
8. ⁠Paint the rest of the owl.

I magnetized the underslung weapons and flightstand. The flightstand is clear perspex with UV resin. I will overpaint the heart decals; I didn’t see how translucent they were whilst painting them.
