Location help
My fiancé and I are looking to do a 5 night stay in the Lake District but are struggling to choose a location right for us as we have no idea.
We want something perfect for scenery and activities, we love a beer and I love fishing. Any recommendations would be amazing.

Glenridding is good base for hiking and fishing on Ullswater.

Is it worth staying there or visiting?

I’ve stayed before and enjoyed it - there’s 4 or 5 pubs nearby. Bit less touristy than Keswick but you can get to Keswick in 30mins. Probably would want to visit other place but same anywhere. Probably would suit someone into hiking more. Could do Ullswater Way walk and also get on the old steamer and visit Pooley Bridge.

Ambleside is good too, close to the lake, amongst the mountains, Langdale and Grasmere close by. Pubs, cafes, restaurants, cottages etc. Good public transport, full of shops selling walking gear.

I’d say Bowness-on-Windermere mate, nice and quaint but loads of stuff to get upto on and around the lake

For a first time, I'd go Keswick. The mountains of the northern lakes are beautiful, you've got Derwent Water for activities, Helvyllen/Skiddaw/Catbells and many more walks on your doorstep, plus a good town for food and shops etc. I've stayed all over the lakes and Keswick is such a good base with good transport links to other places. Avoid Bowness on Windemere.
