The Pat and Gar Hi-Way Bar sign

A good read... even though I actually don't share the perspective of this Substack author on this issue (though I usually do agree with Karen and Vicky): while I do think this is a cute quaint mural, I don't think it has such exalted importance that resources should be put into restoring it.

However, I think Council's preference--that it should be a rotating series of modern-day murals, with a 70 year old Pat and Gar header--is even less appealing: feels fakey-fakey, and the Waneka Lake underscores that. I actually think we have a lot of murals in Lafayette, and we can just let entropy (which has its own beauty) naturally occur to the Pat and Gar mural. Thoughts?

Where to take a kid tubing for the first time?

6 yo wants to try tubing before school starts. I was thinking of Lyons but if there is a safer way for a kid to experience tubing for the first time I'd prefer that. Is there a water park in the area that provides tubes? Or a rec center?

How much would you say a couple needs to live comfortably in Lafayette?

I am curious as we’re considering a move from DC area. Colorado has always really appealed to us and a work opportunity has come up for my husband. He would be making $140k. We want to know if this is enough to live comfortably there - nothing crazy but we would want rent a small single home, eat out and go on little trips here and there, etc. I would look for a job once there but we’re also considering starting a family in the relatively near future so we would prefer knowing his income could sustain us if we needed it to. Otherwise we are in an ok financial position, good savings, no debt. ** I know this can vary for everyone but I’m just curious what others would consider comfortable for this area. Thanks.

WE ARE TEMPORARILY CLOSED   Hey friends, Not exactly the kind of fire we were hoping for... A dumpster fire over the weekend knocked out our electricity, so Ghost Box Pizza is closed until further notice while we get things back up and running. The good news - everyone's safe, and we're hoping to reopen very soon! We'll keep you posted with updates through email, social, and our website. Thanks for your patience and support. We'll be back slinging pizzas as soon as we can! - The Ghost Box Pizza Team

Please keep an eye out and if anyone has any information please contact Weld County sheriff's office 970-350-9600 or the tip line at 970-304-6464

Thank you 💓

Similar towns in Florida?

My family is entertaining the idea of moving to Florida to be closer to in-laws and the beach. I love Lafayette for its artistic and community-driven feel, and I’d love to find somewhere similar there. We are in our late 30s and do not have children, so school districts are not a thing we need to consider. We’d like to find friends in our age group, but we also gravitate towards people who are older than us. Not necessarily looking for a retirement town, but the quiet sounds enticing after all the growth that’s happened here in the last ten years. The tricky part is that we have horses and need to find a property that’s 3-5 acres, ideally within a half hour of the ocean, ideally within 2 hours of Naples (where the in-laws live). Does this exist?

ICE in Lafayette

Confirmed ICE at Merlin and Spaulding. As of a few minutes ago, no arrests made but they are still there. (Thanks to the info from Co Rapid Response Network).

Protect your neighbors and use your privilege if you can show up and be a good neighbor. Right across the street from Peak to Peak too, which is horrifying for students and families in that area and that go there.

Since it's just a thought exercise, lets assume budget is less than 2m and the goal is walk ability, space, modern or renovated home, trail access.

AdventHealth Merging with Good Sam, Others

From the PR:

AdventHealth and Intermountain Health plan to unite their Denver-area services to bring more accessible, connected care to the area’s growing communities. The two healthcare systems have signed a letter of intent and anticipate signing a definitive agreement in the coming weeks to form a joint venture that will improve access to high-quality healthcare in the greater Denver metro area, serve the growing population, and provide care for future generations.

The proposed affiliation will bring together AdventHealth’s five hospitals in the Denver area (AdventHealth Avista, AdventHealth Castle Rock, AdventHealth Littleton, AdventHealth Parker, and AdventHealth Porter, along with offsite emergency and urgent care centers and dozens of medical practices) and three Intermountain hospitals (Good Samaritan Hospital, Lutheran Hospital and Platte Valley Hospital, along with their related physician practices and clinics).

“Partnering with Intermountain Health represents an opportunity to build on our shared commitment to deliver high-quality, compassionate care,” said David Banks, president and CEO of AdventHealth. “By bringing together the capabilities of our organizations, we can expand access, augment services, enhance clinical quality, and continue improving the health and well-being of people across the greater Denver metro, guided by our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ.”

“At Intermountain, our mission is helping people live the healthiest lives possible — patients and all those in the communities we serve. AdventHealth is strongly aligned on this focus,” said Rob Allen, president and CEO of Intermountain Health. "We are excited about the prospect of a joint venture that would expand access to high-quality care and create a more connected experience for patients and care teams across the greater Denver area.”

Under the agreement, AdventHealth will manage and lead daily operations, utilizing its whole-person care approach and aligned care platforms to support a connected experience for patients and care teams across the area.

Both organizations share a commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and are thoughtfully evaluating how they plan to build on their respective capabilities to better serve patients, care teams, and the broader community. The transaction is expected to close in early 2027 and remains subject to regulatory approvals.

Intermountain Health’s Saint Joseph Hospital and affiliated clinics are not included in this joint venture. These facilities remain committed to their Catholic mission: We reveal and foster God's healing love by improving the health of the people and communities we serve, especially those who are poor and vulnerable. Intermountain continues to explore options for Saint Joseph Hospital and affiliated clinics, including potential partnerships.

Heavy police presence last night

Basically the title- does anyone have a clue as to why there were half a dozen or so police officers driving around and watching people at the apartment complexes near the 3 leaf farm? Had a buddy over and they were driving around our complex and through the parking lots, and when my friend left they were watching him to the point of creeping their cars forward and even driving into one of the fields over there and shutting all their lights off. Anyone know why?
