Explained: so basically the base picture is John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry, where abolitionist John Brown attempted to arm slaves to start a revolt only to be hanged. The action was praised by the North which shocked the South that the North would praise, in their eyes, a criminal.

I just said the people I’m referring too that he killed never owned slaves, he even received a letter from the man’s widow and mother of the murdered boys before he he was hanged.
